The world need more love! So in 2018, The Miniature Film Festival is going Rom-Com! Can you shoot a romantic comedy that runs just 60 seconds? Let's find out....

The Miniature Film Festival is a small but enthusiastic celebration of tiny films, solo-run by a fellow filmmaker with help from a few friends. We do this labor of love because we want to acknowledge and promote filmmakers who make one-minute micro short films, and help build a worldwide community in the process. We are not the most glamorous or glitzy festival, but we hope to make up for that with our enthusiasm and love of little films!

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT FILMS LONGER THAN ONE MINUTE (60 SECONDS)

Every one-minute film is, in our view, a minor miracle, and we enjoy seeing your work. We especially look for films that are inventive, funny, uplifting, thought-provoking, meaningful and have a story or message to share, and which get that message across very well. Note we are not looking for teasers, trailers or parts of larger work - the entire story or piece of art has to be encompassed in your one-minute submission.

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT FILMS LONGER THAN ONE MINUTE (60 SECONDS)

Your entry fees - which we work to keep low - go toward renting the venue and providing snacks at the event. We are thankful to have been self-sustaining on a miniature budget each year, and we appreciate your support.

One thing we can offer you that other festivals may not is that your film - if it meets the guidelines of length and is deemed by us to be a romantic comedy - will be seen by the festival founder and director, Robert David Duncan, who is a filmmaker and artist just like you. This brings a level of appreciation for your work and what you are trying to achieve that you may not experience with some other festivals who may be less transparent about who sees your film and how it is selected.

Since 2015, our screening event has been held at the beautiful Barclay Manor heritage venue (pictured above) in Vancouver, with small but very appreciative and enthusiastic audiences. Now heading into our third year, we are remaining true to our roots as a small scale festival that helps create a community for tiny films and the ingenious filmmakers who make them - a miniature festival for miniature films!

In 2018, we will again be will be hosting a small screening in Vancouver, Canada of around 60 selected one-minute films, and awarding laurels for award winners categories. We hope you can join us for the screening, where our traditional festival snack of miniature cupcakes will be served!

For those who cannot attend, we will do our best to share some photos and related news from the event on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Our growing networks on both our Facebook page and on Twitter are very satisfying evidence of our success in community-building worldwide, so please feel free to join the community anytime following the links on the festival page.

The Miniature Film Festival is hosted by Fat Punk Productions, the Vancouver-based film production company founded by Robert David Duncan. We are filmmakers, and we love making miniature films. We hope you will take part in our little festival and join our community!

Awards & Prizes

All official selections get bragging rights as well as laurels. We will also award winner laurels for the films that impress us the most in various categories. Award winners will also receive a PDF copy of Robert David Duncan's book "Micro Short Filmmaking: A guided learning journey" by email.

Rules & Terms

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT FILMS LONGER THAN ONE MINUTE (60 SECONDS)

We try to have "an entry fee for everybody" including a small free window so there is an incentive to submit early to save money. We don't however offer any fee waivers, so the onus is on the filmmaker to submit early. Please keep the deadlines in mind!

By submitting, you are assuring us that you have the rights to the material in your film, and have obtained any necessary permissions and talent releases. We do not take any ownership of your material at all, and make no warranties that we will be able to include your film. By entering, you also grant us permission to share your film in possible secondary screenings including partner festivals and online if your film is selected.

All films must be one-minute or less, though we will consider at our discretion a film that is a few seconds over on a case-by-case basis. We are not looking for teasers, trailers or parts of larger work - the entire story or piece of art has to be encompassed in your one-minute submission. Films can be shot or edited using any device or software. We are a very miniature team, so please make it easy for us to work with you by having your screener available online, as well as accurate contact info and support material on your FilmFreeway project pages.

NOTE that we make a single "master film" file of all the selected films, with timed spacers and title cards showing the film title and filmmaker name. This is a lot of work, but it makes for a smooth, attractive and successful screening with minimal fussing with technology or searching for files. YOUR PART in this is that we will need a copy of your film - FAST - to put into the master file. If we request a download or copy of your film that is why. We do our best, but If you don't respond to multiple requests for a copy, then we have to drop your film from the screening, sorry. Please help us by being responsive and cooperative.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing your films!

Great festival, I was very happy that my film Echo was selected and would have loved to be able to attend in person. Only downside was the very short time allowed to reply and send a videofile. In my case the email had gotten stuck in spam so it was lucky that the festival was able to download a screening file from my vimeo account or the film could not have screened. Very prompt communication though once I contacted the festival myself. But good to take into consideration- check your spam boxes!!

I love the Miniature Film Festival! What a wonderful concept, celebrating brevity and succinct storytelling. We have been fortunate enough to have had films selected the last two years and couldn't be happier. The festival director is supremely welcoming and supportive. I would recommend to anyone.

Very sad that I couldn't attend this fabulous festival this year. I love the idea about films that are micro-short the programme sounded fascinating. I was honoured that my little experimental film got accepted. The festival organisers were fantastic at communication, I hope to save up to attend next year.
