The journey of making this film, In Their Own Time, was hopelessly awful. It took me three years to complete the film. I was convinced by the end of it all, I would be done with movies. Heaven forbid if we love something, love can so easily turn into disasters.
There would always be little moments inbetween all the sadness, when a friend of mine would laze in the afternoon or late evening dreaming about the day if this film gets screened at a festival. How wonderful it would be, we would often say. This was a first film for all of us.
Never would we have imagined this film would come across a festival as gorgeous as empathetic as kind as Come On! Doc. We write good things when we receive good things in return of course, but I feel adamant to write, I would've written great things about them, even if this film didn't make it to the finalist screenings. The people working in this festival are cooperative and communicative. They will answer to all your queries and root for your art. They will screen your film at a wonderful place. This year's screening was in KC Grad. I am from India. Come On, Doc! offered to pay travel and accommodation expenses.
When I couldn't make it, I had kindly Anna Gladkova if it will be possible for her to click a few pictures. I wanted to keep them for purposes of memory. Anna Gladkova, in between all the rush of a festival day, even managed to video call me, during the time, the festival awards were getting announced. I will be forever indebted to her. I will never forget the overwhelming emotions that ran through, when the jury of the festival, announced our little tiny film, as the best feature length film of the festival. I am pretty sure, when my days turn sorrowful again, I will think of this moment. Maybe not for egoistic validations but perhaps to tell myself, I am not completely worthless. I will get to feel this way because of this festival.
I will always be eternally thankful to this festival. I will always remember them, I think. Let's be honest. The plays and rules of the film festival world are not always fair. You need curators and people in the know, to get your work. Come On, Doc! really will provide you a space, if you're a literal first timer like me, to get your work seen. Isn't that something we all crave for?

  • I suppose that for the sake of appearances, instead of telling you that you have not been selected, they tell you that you have been selected and that's it, but that gesture of good will at the moment of truth is a disaster, and it annoys more than it pleases when they tell you that you have been selected when in reality you have not.

Dopo che il mio doc "Axé, Salvador!" è stato selezionato non ho saputo più nulla. A distanza di 7 giorni dalla data dell'evento, sul sito del Festival non esista una lista dei vincitori. Festival fantasma, zero organizzazione e comunicazione.
