TalNexus Screenplay Competition Will be Re-Open for Submissions very soon...

John Milius is the most iconic screenwriter of the last 50 years.

From Robert Duval on the shores of Vietnam “I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like, victory.” in Apocalypse Now, and Clint Eastwood’s “Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?” as Dirty Harry, to that touching moment at the graveside in Saving Private Ryan when former Pvt. Ryan asks, “Did I live a good life?”, Milius is responsible for some of cinema’s most iconic moments as one of Hollywood’s legendary screenwriters,

Milius was the force behind the film that made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star, Conan the Barbarian. He wrote and directed The Wind and the Lion, Big Wednesday, and the cult classic Red Dawn.

When Steven Spielberg asked his friend John Milius to write a monologue for Robert Shaw's character, Quint, in Jaws where he tells the story of surviving a sinking WWII naval ship, he delivered a masterfully hand-written ten page work of art.

Milius’ career was filled with being hired to punch up scripts for blockbuster hit films such as The Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger. He was even the inspiration of the character Walter in the Cohen Brothers’ The Big Lebowski.

We look forward to identifying writers and screenplays worthy of the award named after one of the most acclaimed screenwriters of the past 50 years.

  • Well run, notifications timely. I want to thank the festival for honoring my short screenplay as a Finalist. And additional thanks to TalNexus for providing a venue where ideas like individual liberty and freedom of conscience can be explored. And finally, thank you to Jon Voight, whom I have never met, but who served as my muse for Grandpop in my SP!

The competition notices were on time and very polite. I enjoyed the fact that they accepted adaptation screenplays. This is cool. One of mine was selected Semifinalist, and that was exciting, to be rated by such a top-notch screenplay competition.
