The 6th edition of the festival takes place from 1st through 4th November 2019 at NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT, Hokkaido, Japan. The festival was launched in 2014 as the first festival ever held inside an airport’s terminal building. Last year, the festival had more than 38,000 visitors from all over the world for four days and also received over 2,000 applications for the competitions, which is the highest number of submissions. It means the festival has been recognized internationally. Now the festival is one of the most prestigious animation festivals in Japan.

The screening programs cover a wide variety of interests: Bakuon screenings, masterclasses and lectures, and live music events. The festival tries to offer opportunities for encounters. You can find more information about a submission on our website. See you at NEW CHITOSE 2019!

I had a great first time experience at the festival. People were warm and friendly, and the screening list had an amazing selection. What I enjoyed was how accessible everyone was- the bar in our hotel was the go to hangout area and one could just walk up to anyone and strike a conversation.

Note to visitors: The restaurants and the shops in the airport close around 9:00 pm. Some of them take their last order around that time. You might not find anything to eat if you arrive at 10:00 pm.
