The Phoenix Comicon Film Festival is the state of Arizona's premier festival for genre fare, part of Phoenix Comicon, a pop culture experience like no other!

With four days of non-stop feature films and shorts you will witness the talents of filmmakers around the world. We welcome not only genre fare such as horror, science fiction and fan films, but also feature documentaries, international films, comedy, drama, crime thrillers, animation, family films, student films, and music videos.

Featuring filmmakers from the southwest, Hollywood, and the world we are a great place to showcase your films!

With only a small non-refundable entry fee, your film may be screened at the largest pop culture event in the Southwest.

Only one title may be submitted per entry fee.

Students must include a photocopy of current student ID with entry.

Entries will not be selected for competition if submitted to the festival the previous year (2016 Phoenix Comicon Film Festival)

Works in progress are accepted. While you may submit the final cut up until April 25, your original submission should be a fair representation of your final piece. Please include information as to what still needs to be completed (color correction, score, etc.) in your film file or on your cover letter.

All works selected must be available in full, via digital download, by April 25, 2017 for inclusion in the festival.

Entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2015.

Phoenix Comicon Film Festival DOES NOT PAY SCREENING FEES. By submitting your film via FilmFreeway you acknowledge that the festival will not pay to present your work.

The official submission period will be from September 15th, 2016 through March 6th, 2017.

Participants do not need to attend the Phoenix Comicon in order to be eligible

NO anonymous submissions will be accepted.

All foreign-language films must have English subtitles or be dubbed in English

All entries will be pre-screened by the Phoenix Comicon Film and Web Department staff to determine selection

The Phoenix Comicon is a family-friendly event and preference will be given to films appropriate for all-ages viewing. Submissions not suitable for all-ages will be considered for late-night screenings. No pornographic material will be accepted or considered


Accepted entries will be notified beginning April 1st and no later than April 24th, 2017

Any works-in-progress accepted for competition will be expected to be finalized for presentation at the Phoenix Comicon and submitted to the festival on or before April 25th.

Watermarked accepted features will NOT be screened. Non-watermarked features must be provided for screenings on or before April 25th

Accepted entries will receive ONE complimentary pass good for the entire week of the Phoenix Comicon. Any additional passes must be purchased by the filmmakers through Phoenix Comicon. Phoenix Comicon Film Festival is unable to provide any additional passes or assist in obtaining additional passes. Individual tickets to screenings are not available.


Participants agree that all materials related to their film may be published in the Festival Program, Web page and all other promotional materials or property and in all media. Posters and images of the film may be used independently as well as in combination with images from other films to promote the film and Phoenix Comicon Film Festival.


By entering your film for consideration for the 2017 Phoenix Comicon Film Festival, you authorize that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein. Entry into the festival constitutes permission to exhibit your work at the 2017 Phoenix Comicon Film Festival. The Phoenix Comicon Film Festival is also hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless the Phoenix Comicon Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered. The Phoenix Comicon Film Festival may opt to withdraw your work from the festival at any time for any reason. The Phoenix Comicon Film Festival, DOES NOT PAY SCREENING FEES. By submitting your film via FilmFreeway you acknowledge that the festival will not pay to present your work. Phoenix Comicon Film Festival reserves the right to disqualify any submission without refund of submission fees. Phoenix Comicon Film Festival does not issue refunds.
