The High Peak Independent Film Festival is a non-for-profit film festival that celebrates shorts and feature films from filmmakers, of all ages, around the world. We aim to showcase the best of up and coming, independent filmmakers across four fantastic days. Our aim is to provide a programme which showcases the very best of international and national independent film.
New Mills is a beautiful town, situated in the High Peak, north of England. It's 45 minutes away from the thriving city of Manchester and easily accessible by all public transport. The historic town lies at the confluence of the rivers Goyt and Sett, close to the border of Cheshire. The town stands above the Torrs, a 70 feet (21 m) deep gorge, cut through Woodhead Hill Sandstone of the Carboniferous period. It is on the north-western edge of the Peak District, England's first national park. It has a population of approximately 10,000.
Situated in the town is the fantastic, and very famous, Swizzles Matlow! Yes, you'll know them for their Love Hearts, Rainbow Drops and Double Dip (and more!).
Over the four days, there will be a variety of events taking place, including the weekly Quiz It!, hosted by a very special guest of honour, a fantastic band night, showcasing local talent, and a brilliant awards ceremony. On top of this, there would be no point visiting the High Peak without taking a fantastic fancy-dress themed walk around (subject to weather conditions!).
All our profits go to our selected charity, New Mills Art Theatre. New Mills Art Theatre is run by volunteers for the community around us, it showcases fantastic shows and films and all proceedings go back into work on the building. Currently, they are trying to raise £800,000 for full repairs and renovations on the building. We may not be able to raise that, but we can at least help!
