Arts on the Riverwalk has been celebrating emerging and established arts and artists in the greater Lawrence County region of Pennsylvania for the last five years. Held along the developing Riverwalk Trail in downtown New Castle, the event regularly features an artist's market, stage and street performances, demonstrations, lectures, and arts competitions. The Short Film & Video Festival, co-hosted by Slippery Rock University, was introduced in 2017 to integrate the traditions of film with the medium's continuing evolution. Screening will take place in the Historic Warner Theatre Museum, the original site of the first Warner Brothers theater. A varied representation of artistic visions, genres and methods of production are welcome. Entries will be judged by a panel of working professionals from Arts & Education at the Hoyt (event organizer), Slippery Rock University and local production company, Polestar Studios.

First ($400), Second ($200) and Third ($100) place prizes will be awarded. These awards are expected to grow with participation.

Consistent with our emphasis to showcase the emerging and developing arts of our region, eligibility is limited to artists (18+) residing within a 250 mile radius of the City of New Castle, PA. Entries should be no more than 20 minutes in length and accompanied by an artist statement and short synopsis of the work. Entries are expected to respect all standards of public decency. Those containing excessive nudity or explicit language may be disqualified. Entries submitted by mail must be in mp4 format on a USB flash drive. Please include an SASE if you would like it returned. Submission of work(s) constitutes permission for Arts & Education at the Hoyt to publicly present submitted work(s) in conjunction with the 2018 Short Film & Video Festival at Arts on the Riverwalk on Saturday, September 8, 2018,

Although unexpected rain dampened many of the planned outdoor activities, we were well taken care of at this event. To participate in this festival is to have your film screened at one of the first and oldest movie theaters in the country. If you're a Pennsylvania Filmmaker, be sure to budget for this one.
