17–21 March 2027 · Budapest, Hungary

Short Film Factory is a side event of Short to the Point, structured around a diverse range of thematic and artistic categories. The program brings together works that explore social realities, personal relationships, imagination, urban and natural environments, music, experimentation, and documentary forms.

Short Film Factory highlights films with a clear artistic identity and confident direction - regardless of genre, style, or budget.

Official Categories

Social Change
Works that address contemporary societal questions, human rights, inclusion, diversity, or cultural transformation. The category values nuanced perspectives and strong cinematic language.

Relationship
Films centered on interpersonal dynamics - between individuals, communities, generations, or even abstract entities. Emotional depth and relational tension are at the core of this section.

Imagination
Bold explorations of the unseen and the speculative. Fantasy, science fiction, surrealism, absurdism, and hybrid forms are welcome - provided they reveal a coherent artistic vision.

Cheer Up
Short films that inspire optimism, warmth, or subtle humor. Whether intimate or expansive in scope, these works uplift through tone, character, or narrative sensibility. Fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental formats are welcome.

City Life
Films that explore the complexity of urban existence - from architecture and rhythm to solitude and community. Works may approach the city as setting, subject, or metaphor across all cinematic forms.

Nature
Projects that engage with rural landscapes, wilderness, ecology, or the human relationship with the natural world. Observational, poetic, narrative, or experimental approaches are equally encouraged.

Digital Art
Experimental cinema, animation, audiovisual compositions, and video-based artistic practices that push the boundaries of the moving image. Innovation in form and medium is essential.

Non-Narrative
Cinematic works that prioritize visual language, rhythm, texture, and atmosphere over traditional storytelling structures. Purely aesthetic or conceptual explorations are embraced.

Music and Dance
Films in which music, choreography, or movement constitute the central expressive force - from narrative-driven pieces to abstract audiovisual experiences.

Underground
Independent works operating outside mainstream structures - formally daring, thematically provocative, or produced through alternative means. Artistic integrity is key.

Non-Fiction
Documentary and reality-based works grounded in authenticity and rigorous artistic intent. This section welcomes observational cinema, reportage, interviews, and hybrid documentary forms that demonstrate a responsible engagement with real events, real people, and verifiable contexts, while maintaining strong cinematic language and authorial vision.

Short Film Factory welcomes filmmakers from across the globe to submit works that embody clarity of expression, artistic rigor, and the evolving language of the short form. The program seeks films that demonstrate intention, originality, and a strong cinematic identity.
