Reel Health International Short Film Festival (Reel Health) is an opportunity to tell real stories, instigate a conversation and engage an audience to issues of real health.

Whether it triggers inspiration, hope, sadness, dignity or more, health issues touch us all and form stories of great significance.

Reel Health encourages filmmakers to explore the role of health in films and provides a unique avenue to tell real stories that instigate conversation and progress. Films can be as short as 30 seconds and up to 15 minutes with a range of thought-provoking categories and associated awards.

Entering our fourth year, we are excited to see our concept grow, and inspire others through the engaging medium of film.

Please note that Reel Health is not an avenue for health-based companies to distribute corporate films of self-promotion. Any such films submitted to Reel Health will not be considered as a finalist.

Reel Health has three official categories each with dedicated awards.

A further award will be selected from the three categories to celebrate a film that has demonstrated exceptional creativity.

All of these awards attract AU$1,000 prize money and trophy.

An overall winner will be selected from all films submitted and will receive AU$2,500 prize money and a trophy.

Two factors elevate the Reel Health International Short Film Festival above others.

First, the festival is structured into three categories that invite films with a diversity of subjects and perspectives. That diversity is bolstered by a lack of restrictions on narrative, genre, and artistic methods, within the individual categories. This organization pairing between an acceptance of diversity and a rejection of restrictions ensures that participating artists are allowed whatever means they require to express the depth and breath of their experience with authenticity.

Second, the festival is staffed by accommodating, patient, and invested professionals. No question I had went unanswered and no technical issue went unresolved. Beyond the professional, the festival staff made me feel like a partner, like a fellow mental health advocate.

While I was unable to attend the Reel Health International Short Film Festival, my communication with the Festival Director was top notch. They offered great feedback and support during the whole process. Upon hearing that I had won an award for one of their categories they went out of their way to make me feel included in the event. For those working on stories about wellness, health and aging - this is a fantastic venue for your film. Highly recommended!
