3RD EDITION
MAMA AFRIKA FILM FESTIVAL celebrates women.
For five days in November, Mama Africa festival will emphasize student films sourced from our various film/video training institutions which offer film training in Kenya and Africa : Kenyatta University (KU), Kenya Institute of Mass Communications (KIMC), African Film & Television Talent Institute (AFFTI) and the Multimedia University of Kenya will be the venues which will host the festival. Each year, Mama Afrika Film Festival is keen to engage film students and film enthusiasts in debates and discussions during the Q&A sessions with the filmmakers after each screening.
The opening ceremony will be at the former Nairobi Cinema.
During the 5 days, panel discussions before the screenings will focus on the production status for students before and after college. What are the challenges of producing films, and what are the solutions to these challenges?
MAMA AFRIKA FILMFESTIVAL continues to highlight issues of poverty, inequality, injustice and our physical environment using film as a medium.

Mama Afrika is looking forward to collaborating, once again, with the Zimbabwe-based International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF). IFFF has been with us right from our humble beginnings and some selected films from the Zimbabwean festival are screened during Mama Afrika Festival. Mama Afrika and IFFF collaborate on joint screenwriting workshops and other activities.

The theme for 2019 Festival is: FILM TRAINING IN KENYA AND BEYOND.

Mama Afrika Film Festival will foster partnerships that further awareness and advancement of the global sustainability goals (UN, 2015), as well as promoting the power of film as a tool for advocacy.
The festival expects to show and discuss student, feature, documentary and animation films that explore from students and African filmmakers of both genders.

  • Not sure what happened here. Communication about the festival and screening was just not there.

Any festival that supports and nurtures African female filmmakers and storytellers is one worth getting behind. Truly honored to have won the Best Feature prize.
