The TINCAN Magazine is a perpetual container for the distribution or storage of culture, art, and its creators.

The TINCAN Magazine Writing Awards is not only about finding people who can write well. Indeed, the aim of the contest is to identify creative individuals who have both critical thinking and writing skills. The TINCAN Magazine Writing Awards focuses on a few genres: Screenplay, Stage Play, Teleplay, Novel, Poetry, Essay, and Nonfiction.

ELIGIBILITY
The TINCAN Magazine Writing Awards is open to anyone, amateurs, and professionals alike. Entries are welcome from any country in the world.
The competition is open to all forms of literature, from commissioned, published, unpublished, or personal work.
There is no time or date restriction on when the work was written.
All works must be the original work of the writer(s). They must be submitted in English. We accept all genres.
We accept both produced and non-produced screenplays, stage plays and teleplays.

JUDGING PROCESS
Judges score on a scale of 1-10, based on the criteria below:

*Originality (Uniqueness of Concept / Expression of Theme)
*Creativity (Storytelling / Mood)
*Technical Execution (Grammar)
*Overall Impression / Wow Factor

Entries receiving an average score under 5 do not qualify for an award.

INTERVIEW - In case your film is selected, we publish online, a full interview with the screenwriter, director, producer, actor/actress, cinematographer or editor and we promote it to our audience. Submit your film to the interview category you are interested in. We don’t screen the submitted films. We watch the films behind the scenes, and we analyze them as a whole, focusing especially on the work of the member of the crew selected at submission.

REVIEW - In case your film is selected, we write a review, publish it on our website and promote it to our audience.

By no means does submitting your film guarantee that it will be accepted for the review or interview category. Unfortunately, we cannot refund a submission fee once you’ve submitted your film. ARTIST'S RIGHTS
All artists retain full copyrights for their own work. Winners grant The TINCAN Magazine limited and restricted use of winning titles only to promote the artists themselves and in connection with marketing The TINCAN Magazine Writing Awards competition itself. Details can be found in the Competition rules.

All semi-finalists, finalists and winners will be listed on our website.

AWARD CERTIFICATE
All winners will get a digital award certificate and official winner laurels.

PUBLIC AWARENESS
All winners, finalists and semi-finalists will have their submitted works published on the magazine website, under the Artists’ Profile category.

PROMOTION
All winners will be interviewed (in writing) and their interviews will be published on the magazine website, under the Artists’ Spotlight category.

The winners will be selected for each of the following categories:

*Mini Screenplay - 3 pages or less (We accept short film screenplays of any genre).
*Short Screenplay - Between 4 and 13 pages (We accept short film screenplays of any genre).
*Short Screenplay - Between 14 and 30 pages (We accept short film screenplays of any genre).
*Short Novel - Between 1 and 20 pages (We accept novels of any genre).
*Novel - Between 20 and 100 pages (We accept novels of any genre).
*Stage Play - Between 1 and 40 pages (We accept plays of any genre).
*Teleplay - Between 1 and 30 pages (We accept teleplays of any genre).
*Poetry - Between 1 and 10 pages (We accept poetry of any genre).
*Short Nonfiction - Between 1 and 20 pages (We accept nonfiction of any genre).
*Nonfiction - Between 20 and 100 pages (We accept nonfiction of any genre).
*Essay - Between 1 and 5 pages (We accept essays on any topic).
*Film/Video Contest – films or videos no longer than 33 minutes (All types and genres of short films are accepted).

INTERVIEW - One interview with the screenwriter, director, producer, actor/actress, cinematographer, or editor, published on the magazine website, under the Artists’ Spotlight category.

REVIEW - One review of the submitted short film, published on the magazine website, under the Artists’ Spotlight category.

1.1. The TINCAN Magazine Writing Awards competition is open to professional and amateur writers.

1.2. By entering the Competition, you hereby accept these competition rules.

1.4. By entering the Competition, you agree and acknowledge that The TINCAN Magazine is permitted to receive and review your registration data. Participants agree that personal data including, but not limited to, name, mailing address, phone number, and email address may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used for the purposes of conducting and administering this writing competition. At any time, participants have the right to access, review, rectify or cancel any personal data held by The TINCAN Magazine by sending an email to the following address: support@tincanmagazine.com.

1.5. All works must be submitted in English. Screenplays should be formatted according to current industry standards. Pages must be numbered and typed in 12-point Courier font with standard margins. Brief dialogue in another language is acceptable so long as an English translation is provided.

1.6. We happily accept works with more than one author or contributor. Please make note of each author’s name in your submission. Should a text with two or more writers be named a winner of the competition, the award will be divided equally among them.

1.7. We do not have a rule regarding title pages. But it is recommended that include the title, author(s) and any relevant registration or copyright information.

1.8. All texts should be submitted only as a PDF. We WILL NOT accept Word .docs, Final Draft, Celtix or any other file formats.

1.9. The running time of films entered for the competitions should not exceed 33 minutes (we have no minimum length limit).

2.1. To enter the competition, you must submit your entries to the Competition URL, https://filmfreeway.com/WritingTheTINCAN. Participants must also pay the entry fee(s) and complete the submission form in order to be considered for the competition. Once a submission fee has been paid, there are no refunds provided. If you have been wrongly charged for any reason, we will be happy to credit the amount that is due.

3.1. All entries will be reviewed by our editors and judges and an international group of industry professionals. The screened entries are then reviewed by our international jury. The jury will choose the winners. The decisions of the jury are final.

3.2. Submissions that have been awarded in a previous The TINCAN Magazine competition are not eligible to win prizes in subsequent competitions. Please consider entering new work. Submissions that have been selected as Finalists in previous competition ARE eligible to win a prize in subsequent competitions. A *writer* may win multiple awards but the same the submitted text cannot win multiple awards. If a text was submitted to a previous competition but received no prize, then that text is still eligible.

3.4. The full name of each entrant whose work is selected as a winner, juror’s pick, or finalist will be published online.

4.1. The TINCAN Magazine reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and remove any submission that does not comply with the following requirements, even after the work appears on the website. You warrant, in respect of the texts submitted by you, as follows:

4.1.1. You are the sole copyright owner and creator of the text.

4.1.2. You have the right to enter your text in this competition.

4.1.3. To the best of your knowledge, the text does not contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libelous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, or profane content.

4.1.4. To the best of your knowledge, the text does not contain any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.

4.1.5. The text does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, and your text does not include:

4.1.5.1. trademarks owned by third parties.

4.1.5.2. copyrighted materials owned by third parties.

4.1.5.3. names, likenesses, or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead.

4.1.5.4. entries in which you have purchased or secured the rights to use third party texts.

4.2. You agree to fully indemnify The TINCAN Magazine in respect of all royalties, fees and any other monies owing to any person by reason of your breaching any of the foregoing.

4.3. You confirm that each person depicted in the text has granted permission to be portrayed as shown—and has the right to grant that permission.

5.1. The TINCAN Magazine recognizes you retain full ownership of the copyright in each text that you have submitted.

5.2. Not every text submitted to the competition will be publicly visible on The TINCAN Magazine. There are too many submissions for each one to be shown on the site.

6.1. All entrants agree that all text(s) submitted to the competition may be reproduced (with writer copyright credit) and used to conduct and promote The TINCAN Magazine competitions. You hereby grant The TINCAN Magazine with a right to use submitted texts in the framework of such promotional activities.

7.1. Any text used by The TINCAN Magazine shall carry a credit line. Any failure to provide such credit line shall not be deemed to be a breach, as long as The TINCAN Magazine uses its reasonable endeavors to rectify such failure within a reasonable period from the date of notice of such failure.

7.2. You acknowledge that The TINCAN Magazine and its event partners assume no responsibility and are not liable for any image misuse.

8.1. The TINCAN Magazine assumes no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate, or incomplete information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Competition, and The TINCAN Magazine assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connections, garbled computer transmissions, other problems or technical malfunctions with regard to the Competition. The TINCAN Magazine assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alteration of entries. The TINCAN Magazine is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail addressed to The TINCAN Magazine on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the internet or any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to your or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Competition. If for any reason a contestant’s text cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical failures, The TINCAN Magazine assumes no responsibility.

9.1. In no event will The TINCAN Magazine, its members, event partners or its officers, directors, employees, be responsible or liable for any damages or losses of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of any contestant’s access to and use of the website and participation in the competition. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, everything on the Website is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for purpose or use or non-infringement.

10.1. You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and winning texts for the purposes of advertising, promotion, and publicity for The TINCAN Magazine and the Competition without additional compensation. Such requests will not be unreasonably withheld.
