  • Being an OzFlix Independent Film Award finalist was wonderful. The ceremony aimed for a real esprit de corps among everyone in the room, where we felt less like we were in competition and more like comrades, who were celebrating the collective effort it takes to make independent movies outside the government funding bodies or major company system, and the organisers really achieved that. A fun night!

Thank you Paul for your kind words. And you are so right, Ozflix is very much about the community of independent filmmakers in Australia. We strive to recognise, reward and build community in the Indy space, and the Ozzies is one of a few ways we are contributing to that goal. We hope you will participate again in the near future. All the best, the Ozzies Team.

The 2019 Ozzie Awards was a tremendous night for showcasing the Australian Independent film industry. It was a real privilege to be in attendance and see so many award winners and nominees as well as all types of indie film-makers come together and celebrate this crazy industry we're all involved in.
The awards ceremony was very efficient and ran at a very good pace and it was very obvious how much time, effort, thought and care had gone into the planning of the evening.
The afterparty was also an incredible opportunity for filmmakers to network and collaborate which is something that this industry lacks at times so it was a terrific sight to see and be part of.
This is an event that every local filmmaker can benefit from attending, whether you or your project are award nominees or not.
A great night and I hope to be in attendance again next year.

Very well organised event, set in a wonderful venue at ACMI.

All the staff were polite and friendly, and any communication before, during and after the event was responded to in a timely manner.

Considering that the 'Ozzies' were operating in only its 2nd year, it was very impressive and keeps up with some of the bigger festivals around the country. The networking event afterwards was held at a nice venue, with easy access to and from.

If you're an independent film, I would certainly recommend being involved with OzFlix in any capacity.

Congratulations on a great evening to everyone involved.

    Alex,

Thanks for your very friendly and favourable review.

We were proud of achieving a strong field of 44 feature film and feature doc entries, the movement of the event to ACMI, the participation of very high profile jurors George Miller, Margaret Sixel, Rod Hardy, Chris Hayward, Tony Bonner, David Williamson and many others (21 jurors in all), the Lifetime Achievement with Michael Caton, plus of course our second year 'live stream' broadcast.

Thank you for entering, and congratulations on your win.

We look forward to streaming your film on Ozflix, and any entries you might make in future years.

    Best,
Ron Brown and the Ozzies team.
