Filmmaking is an art that is not as common in schools as drawing and sculpting. Without filmmaking, we wouldn’t have television, digital advertisement and movies/films to watch. If filmmaking is so significant in our modern society among youths, how do those with interest in film production get the practice and passion to become directors, cinematographers, and screenwriters?
The Laker Film Festival is a student-run Film Festival. We strive to showcase new and innovative films and fostering the next generation of filmmakers. The festival offers a night of award-winning high school films, panels, Q&A’s, networking and celebration. The festival also encourages students from all over New Jersey to bond over a common passion for the art of film.
There are 4 separate categories to submit films to: "Best Narrative," "Best Comedy," "Best Documentary," "Best Original Music Video". Each category has a cash prize of $50 as well as a trophy for those involved.
A overall film will be awarded "Grand Prize Filmmaker" and will be awarded a cash prize of $200 as well as a trophy for those involved.
Anyone who aided in creating a film that is awarded first, second, or third place in each category will be allowed to attend the award ceremony, screening and Q&A panel with industry professionals for free.
