ATHENS FILM FESTIVAL: A SANCTUARY FOR THE ARTS
In a town legendary for its creative spirit, the focus on genuine audience engagement re-centers the conversation on the art.

The Athens Film Festival exists to demonstrate that the true power of cinema is best realized when the work is met with an authentic, unadulterated embrace from the community. We do not just screen films; we champion the shared, communal act of watching a story unfold.

Here, the pursuit of commerce takes a necessary second place to artistic intent.

WHAT DEFINES US & THE OPPORTUNITY WE OFFER

THE POWER OF CURATION: ADVANCEMENT THROUGH AUTHENTIC SELECTIVITY
Selection by the Athens Film Festival immediately distinguishes your work. Our highly competitive, meticulously crafted catalogue—curated by award-winning filmmakers and industry veterans—positions every chosen film as a world-class title of substance. This selectivity is your true opportunity: your film is noticed not only by our engaged audience but by the professionals seeking new voices for development and distribution.

AGGRESSIVE HOSPITALITY
We do not just host filmmakers; we adopt them. We believe in a festival experience that creates real relationships, not just transactions. Our goal is for every artist to feel the distinct, close-knit embrace that only Athens can provide.

ART OVER ALGORITHMS
In an era where technology often dictates taste, we prioritize films that challenge, move, and connect us. We are looking for work that holds weight—stories that prove artistic merit is the only metric that matters.

THE AUTHENTIC AUDIENCE
known for its unwavering enthusiasm for the arts, Athens is home to the greatest audience in the world. Known for their radical generosity and deep engagement, our attendees bring an energy that supersedes the conventional festival approach.

ROOTED IN GEORGIA: A GLOBAL GATEWAY
Georgia has become a world-leading center for film, and we are proud to be stewards of its creative spirit. Our mission is to elevate the work produced here while simultaneously bringing the world's most compelling cinema to our local landscape. By prioritizing Georgia and global films, we ensure our region is not merely a backdrop for production, but a critical driver of culture and a premier destination for world-class art.

RADICAL ACCESS & WAIVER POLICY
We believe that the price of entry should never silence a story.

IMPORTANT: If a submission fee stands in the way of your ability to share your work—due to economic hardship, currency limitations, or global circumstances—please visit our website to request a confidential fee waiver. We want to see your vision, not your wallet.

We had a blast screening 'Heart To See' at Athens Film Festival '25!! They do a great job at caring for their filmmakers and creating space for the opportunity to build real relationships. Thankful to have been apart!

  • This seems like an awesome film festival. Although our film screened, we were unable to attend, but we experienced great communication and the festival did lots of advertising. We would submit again. Thanks!

  • A young but incredibly packed festival with excellent opportunities for young filmmakers and a very loyal and engaged audience base. I would definitely suggest this one.
