Cannes World Film Festival

General Submission Terms

By submitting in one of the categories of the World Film Festival in Cannes – Remember the Future, you unconditionally agree to the following terms:

• All films are accepted as long as they belong to one of our official main categories.
• Films presented in English should, if possible, include French subtitles, but this is not mandatory.
• Films presented in French should, if possible, include English subtitles.
• Any film containing a third language or any other language (other than French or English) must include French or English subtitles.
• The WORLD FILM FESTIVAL in Cannes does not require a World Premiere, but we appreciate being informed if your film is a World Premiere, an International or European Premiere (your first screening outside your country of origin), or a National Premiere.
• All films must be submitted in at least one Main Category and may also be submitted in Additional Categories without limitations. Note: Films submitted without any Main Category will be automatically disqualified without a refund.
• A submitted film may be re-submitted multiple times within the same year in different categories.
• The current edition period runs from April 30th to April 30th of each year.*

By submitting, you agree that:

• Our festival may freely use certain parts of your film (including trailer/teaser/poster/still images) for promotional purposes, particularly in the festival’s visuals and on our social media, for the duration of the current edition.* This authorization is tacitly renewable each year unless you expressly request otherwise in writing (via email with acknowledgment of receipt and a 15-day notice period).
• We will never make your film available online.
• The festival team selects a jury composed of a minimum of 7 members, chosen from the film industry, the music industry, and other artistic and cultural fields. These members are selected objectively to avoid any conflict of interest with the competing films in which they are not involved.
• Any fees paid to submit your work under these conditions are non-refundable and non-transferable to another edition, for any reason whatsoever, including force majeure. For reference, the submission fee does not include a ticket to the annual gala, which is managed through a separate ticketing system.
• We do not offer submission fee waivers, except in exceptional circumstances following a thorough analysis of your specific situation.
• You certify that you hold all rights to the submitted work (images, sound, music, and poster) and guarantee us against any third-party claims on this matter.

Regarding works created with Artificial Intelligence (AI):

• This must be indicated in the project specifications on FilmFreeway at the time of submission
• AI-generated works cannot, under any circumstances, and subject to potential acceptance (see specific conditions), violate applicable laws and regulations, particularly those related to copyright, image rights, etc.
Example: It is not permitted to have an existing real-life actor (especially a well-known one) perform a role using their likeness without their explicit consent and a properly signed contract.
• It is also not permitted to use any intellectual property without the author’s or their legal heirs’ authorization.
• In all cases, you are solely responsible for ensuring you have all necessary rights for the works you submit. The festival cannot systematically verify compliance and cannot be held liable for any violations. The festival reserves the right to hold you accountable in case of legal claims from third parties.
• If a third-party claim arises, you agree to indemnify the festival upon request.

Legal and Participation Conditions:

• The copyright holder must be at least 18 years old. If the applicant is a minor, their legal representatives must provide proof of their ability to submit on their behalf.
• You cannot withdraw your participation from the monthly or annual competition once the Official Selection has been announced.
• You are allowed to be represented by another person at the Annual Ceremony. However, this person must provide a valid mandate from you, and you must notify us by email with a copy of this mandate. Without this, the person will not be granted access to the event, particularly for security reasons.
• At the Annual Ceremony, excerpts from nominated and winning films will be screened in digital format. Submitted media files must meet broadcast standards, otherwise, your film will not be screened. Accepted formats: .mov (H264) or .mp4 - Resolution: Full HD (1920×1080) or 4K
• All submission acceptances and rejections will be notified to candidates via email. (Check our submission platform FilmFreeway for deadlines and other updates.)
• By registering for our festival, unless you specify otherwise, you agree to receive festival communications via email. If you no longer wish to receive them, you can unsubscribe at any time via the provided link in the email.
• Once you submit your film to a World Film Festival in Cannes – Remember the Future category, you cannot modify your submission. Any revised or modified film must be resubmitted with a new submission fee.
• Your film must not contain watermarks.
• The monthly and annual schedule, including festival dates and times, is subject to change based on the time required for jury deliberation or technical maintenance. Any scheduling adjustments are made at the festival’s discretion and do not entitle participants to any claims or compensation. You unreservedly accept the annual and monthly schedule and any potential changes.
• If you submitted your film as a student, you may be asked at any time to provide proof of student status. Any misuse of this category will result in disqualification without refund.
• The World Film Festival in Cannes – Remember the Future reserves the right to reject any submission that does not comply with these conditions or that may infringe upon the festival’s or third parties’ rights. Nominations in all categories are made at the jury’s sole discretion, and their decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
• The number of winning categories varies each month, depending on the submissions received.
• You retain 100% of all rights to your intellectual property.
• The World Film Festival in Cannes is not responsible for the conduct or actions of individuals submitting in any category.
• Participants must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including copyright, trademark rights, image rights, and crediting obligations.
• The festival is not responsible for the non-receipt of submitted documents, DCPs, or other materials by participants.
• No work or artist will be discriminated against or favored based on their country of origin, language, age, race, education, ideology, sexual orientation, or financial resources.
• All content, formats, and techniques will be objectively considered and analyzed in their entirety and without censorship.
• The festival will screen selected films in competition without financial compensation (screening fees). By submitting through FilmFreeway, you agree NOT to request screening fees as a condition for your film’s participation in the festival, should it be selected.

The World Film Festival in Cannes – Remember the Future does not accept:

• 1 - Amateur films or videos.
• 2 - Extremist content or propaganda from religious or political organizations.
• 3 - Films made five years before the submission date.
• 4 - Films containing pornography, racism, sexism, offensive or defamatory remarks, or any content that may infringe upon third-party rights and violate applicable laws and regulations.
• 5 - Films that disrespect anyone’s privacy.
• 6 - Films with poor production standards (poor audio quality, missing subtitles/captions when required, or video resolution lower than 720p HD).
• 7 - Cash payments or any form of payment via electronic transfer or mail (all payments must be made exclusively via FilmFreeway).
• 8 - Any physical materials (e.g., DCP, DVDs, posters, etc.) sent to our postal address.
