HOW THE FINALISTS ARE DETERMINED: From the first round of live audience and jury voting on The Audience Awards platform, the top 3 films with the most votes and the top 4 jury-selected films advance to the prestigious finals round. The finalist films are judged by an esteemed panel of industry jurors. The top 5 final jury winners from the finals round are the finalists and receive a digital distribution deal offer. The last filmmakers who won our film festival received a green light to make their short into a feature film!

A note on audience voting: If you want your friends and family to vote for your film, share away. Audience voting greatly increases your views & exposure for your film and career, but social sharing is not necessary to win. The jury ultimately chooses the finalists and winners of the festival.

Though it was nice to have our film online in an easily shareable format, my experience with this festival was slightly frustrating. Initially, communication with the festival was prompt and thorough, and they were quick to answer my questions. However, things started to go south when they abruptly moved the deadline to publish our film online up by a full month. Once voting began, they encouraged us to share on social media, but all our social media links from the site came up without an image, making it difficult to draw people to the site. Voting instructions were also somewhat confusing, and we had to continuously re-explain them to our followers. When I reported the issues I was having with our share-able links to the festival, it took them 3 full business days and a follow up email to respond to me, despite the fact that voting was only open for a week and these issues were therefore time-sensitive. Our links were never fully fixed. The top 3 vote getting films advanced to the finals round (in addition to 6 jury-selected films), and our film made it through the voting by the skin of our teeth. Though I did not necessarily expect our film would make it to the final screening (our film is an ultra-low-budget project, and we were always going to be a long shot), I was surprised and disappointed when none of the top vote-getting films were selected. I felt as though our aggressive push to get votes was wasted effort and that the entire vote-getting contest was an attempt to drive traffic to the festival's site. In general, if you'd like experience with an online festival and/or would just like to put your film up online for people to see it, you might have a good experience with this festival. If you opt to submit and participate, however, I would discourage you from participating in the vote-getting component; it was difficult, time-consuming, and ultimately not worth it.

  • I liked when the public vote for your film, gives you an approach to the audience. I got the most voted film which means you get to the final round in the audience awards (such an honor) with the tops films, but never got a notification when the festival ended and the winners where announced which was confusing, also didn't get a laurel as finalist or most voted film for promotional porpuses just for selection and competidor. I think it can improve in communication.

  • This festival serves their own purpose. You just need to exploit from it what you can. The site is the real winner when you direct your audience to sign up and essentially become a member on their site. Hopefully you know thousands of more people than your competition.

    Response from festival:

Hi Gustavo, Thanks for your feedback. Once films are reviewed and accepted into the festival, the jury and audience selects the top films. We were honored to have Matt Lillard and Skeet Ulrich of Scream and Golden Globe winner Barry Bostwick, as well as other well-known industry pros jury the films. This was a huge opportunity for the official selections to have their films screened by such an awesome jury panel. Cheers!
