The Highway 61 Film Festival is a multiple-day celebration of the magic of movies that was established in 2011 as a means of supporting and promoting independent films and filmmakers from all along Highway 61 and beyond.

In 2018, the festival moved from October to April, and celebrated with a "Best of the Fest" featuring award winners and fan favorites from the previous seven years of the festival. The competition opened for submissions again in October 2018 for the April 5-7, 2019 festival.

The Highway 61 Film Festival is held in Pine City, Minnesota, an area known for its emerging arts and culture scene.

Cash prizes are awarded to the first place winners in each category.
