CALLING ALL WOMEN DIRECTORS to the 19th Annual LUNAFEST film festival celebrating short films by, for and about women.

The 2020 LUNAFEST program will explore stories from a variety of perspectives under the theme of Someday is Now, championing the timely, yet eternal relevance of women’s aspirations, accomplishments, resilience and power.

We are seeking films about women who want, need, grow, change, innovate, nurture, reach, commit and rise…

Films about goals, challenges, passions, persistence and gusto…

Films about big dreams, incredible odds, critical decisions, consequential actions, difficult journeys, unbelievable obstacles, and huge triumphs.

Films about strength, smarts, spirit, and joy.

LUNA has always believed in the power of women. From the beginning, we knew women have a role to play in shaping the future of the film industry. So in 2000, LUNAFEST was born. The first event was a small, but hopeful, screening in California.

Now, LUNAFEST annually showcases the work of 6-10 talented women filmmakers and serves as a vehicle for raising awareness and funds for causes that women care about. Screenings are held in more than 175 cities across the nation, to audiences of 25,000+. To date, LUNAFEST has raised $4.7 million and worked with over 1,600 women’s nonprofits – with 100% of the net proceeds of each event donated directly to charity.

Please note: Your film submission fee is donated directly to our partner, Chicken & Egg Pictures. Chicken & Egg Pictures supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. The organization envisions a world in which women filmmakers, representing a range of experiences and backgrounds, are fully supported to realize their artistic goals, build sustainable careers, and achieve parity in all areas of the film industry.

The director of each selected film will receive an award of $2,500.00. Winning films will be screened by audiences at more than 180 venues throughout North America and serve as vehicle for raising awareness and funds for causes that women care about.
