● INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS ●
1. Intro
For the promotion of short films and the development of a spirit of friendship and co-operation among filmmakers from all over the world, the 29th Drama International Short Film Festival: International Competition will be held from the 4th to the 10th September 2023, in the city of Drama, the district of Macedonia, Northern Greece.
2. Eligibility
a) Eligible are fiction films, documentary films, animated films, experimental films completed in 2022 and 2023.
b) Each film must not exceed forty-five (45) minutes of runtime. DISFF reserves the right to accept longer films in exceptional cases.
c) Each director may participate in the Festival with only one (1) film, and shall declare the type of film (documentary, fiction, animation).
d) Only Greek Premieres are accepted.
e) Films must have been completed no earlier than January 01, 2022.
f) The final screening file must be available in DCP, Apple ProRes 422, h264 or MPEG4.
g) The film must have English subtitles.
3. Entry Procedure
a) The film should be submitted via https://filmfreeway.com/Dramafilmfestival
b) Submission fee of fifteen (15) euros per film submitted until the 30 th of April
is required. For films submitted from 1 st to 8 th of May, the submission fee
amounts to twenty (20) euros. For the submission of four or more films the
fee is fifty (50) euros. Upon its discretion, the administration of the Festival
may decide the free participation for institutions or directors. Payment shall
be affected upon application. Fees are not refundable.
c) Required material for the submission:
• The entry form duly filled.
• A preview screener uploaded through FilmFreeway’s online submission.
• One HD photo-still of the film.
• Synopsis, Photo of the Director, Credits
d) Deadline for the submission is 08th May 2023.
e) The submission of the film implies unconditional acceptance of the festival’s regulations.
f) The DISFF reserves the right to invite short films out of the above procedure in special cases.
g) As a Greek Premiere is required, films that have previously had a public screening in cinema, festival, TV Channel, or online public platforms in Greece before the festival takes place, will not be accepted.
h) The film screener that will be submitted to the DISFF along with the entry form will remain with the archives of the Festival and will be available at its Market.
i) The Preliminary Committee may, in its sole discretion, approve one or more
films submitted to the Present Competition Program, for further participation
in other Programs in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation and in
particular for the international competition sections Short & Green,
Animation International, Competition Program and for the Program –
Cinematherapy Lab provided that these films meet the general principles of
this and the corresponding Competition program and after the consent of the
candidates has been obtained. Films that have not been selected for the
competition do not participate during the screening days of the Festival, but
are included in the Film Market, as further defined in term VI hereof,
provided that the applicant has provided a relevant license at his application.
4. Awards of International Competition
The Jury of the Festival consists of at least 3 members and awards the following Prizes:
- GRAND PRIX
- BEST DIRECTION
- BEST "SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE" FILM AWARD
- BEST PRODUCTION AWARD “TV5 MONDE”
- AUDIENCE AWARD
There are also the:
- FIPRESCI PRIZE awarded by a Fipresci Jury.
- “HUMAN VALUES AWARD” awarded by a special jury of the Hellenic Parliament.
a) The Jury may also award other honorary distinctions for specific artistic achievements.
b) Each prize is awarded to a single film and cannot be awarded ex aequo.
c) Drama Int’l Short Film Festival is accredited as a member festival of the European Film Academy’s Short Film Program, presenting one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards (EFA).

● STUDENT INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS ●
1. Intro
For the promotion of short films and the development of a spirit of friendship and co-operation among filmmakers from all over the world, the Drama International Short film festival: International Student Competition (DISFF) will held from the 04th to the 10th of September 2023, in the city of Drama, in the district of Macedonia, Northern Greece.
2. Eligibility
a) Eligible are training and graduation Fiction, Documentary, Experimental and Animation Short Films completed in 2022 and 2023.
b) Each institution may submit a maximum of 70 minutes of footage. Individual submissions can also be accepted this year.
c) Each film must not exceed 20 minutes of runtime. DISFF reserves the right to accept longer films in exceptional cases.
d) Each director may participate in the Festival with only one (1) film, and shall declare the type of film (documentary, fiction, animation)
e) Only Greek Premieres are accepted.
f) Films must have been completed no earlier than January 01, 2022.
g) The final screening file must be available in DCP, Apple ProRes 422, h264 or MPEG4.
h) The film must have English subtitles.
i) For submissions up to the 30 th of April, application fee amounts to five (5)
euros per film submitted, and for submissions from the 1 st until the 8 th of May
application fee amounts to eight (8) euros. In case the same applicant
submits more than four (4) films, the application fee amounts to twenty (20)
euros regardless of the total number of films submitted. Payment is due with
submission. Once the digital submission is finalized, fees may not be
refunded. Submission codes are issued free of charge to educational
institutions or directors who are unable to pay the submission fees, upon
their request before the Independent Department of the Drama Short Film
Festival, and relevant Administration’s decision.

- SPECIAL JURY AWARD: “Rising Star”
- QUEER STUDENT AWARD: "Loud & Proud"
a) The Jury may also award other honorary distinctions for specific artistic achievements.

1. Intro
For the promotion of short films and the development of a spirit of friendship and co-operation among filmmakers from Greek Filmmakers from Greece and abroad, the 46th Drama International Short Film Festival: National Competition will be held from the 4th to the 10th September 2023, in the city of Drama, in the district of Macedonia, Northern Greece.
2. Eligibility
a) Eligible are Fiction, Documentary, Experimental, and Animation Short Films completed in 2022 and 2023.
b) Each director may participate at the Festival with only one (1) film.
c) Only Greek Premieres are accepted.
d) Production must have been completed after January 1st, 2022.
e) The final screening file must be available in DCP, Apple ProRes 422, h264 or MPEG4.
f) If the film's dialogues are not in the Greek language, English Subtitles must be submitted.
g) The films must be of a Greek production or co-production, and the directors must be Greek or Cypriot.
3. Entry Procedure
a) The film should be submitted via https://filmfreeway.com/Dramafilmfestival
b) Submissions are free for Greek and Cypriot filmmakers.
c) Required Material for the submission:
• The entry form duly filled.
• A preview screener uploaded through FilmFreeway’s online submission.
• One HD photo-still of the film.
• A Synopsis, Photo of Director, Credits.
d) Deadline for the submission is the 15th May 2023. Any film selected for the
competition may not be removed from the selection.
e) The submission of the film implies unconditional acceptance of the festival’s regulations.
f) The DISFF reserves the right to invite short films out of the above procedure in special cases.
g) As a Greek Premiere is required, films that have previously had a public screening in cinema, festival, TV Channel, or online public platforms in Greece before the festival takes place, will not be accepted.
h) The film screener that will be submitted to the DISFF along with the entry form will remain with the archives of the Festival and will be available in its Market.
i) The pre-selection Committee may, in its sole discretion, approve one or more films submitted to the Present Competition Program, for their participation in other Programs in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation and in particular for the International Competition Programs: Short & Green and Animation, and for the (non-competition) Program: Cinematherapy Lab, provided that these films meet the general principles of this and the corresponding Competition program and after the consent of the candidates has been obtained.
4. Awards of National Competition
The Jury of the Festival consists of at least 5 members and awards the following Prizes:

a) The Jury may also award other honorary distinctions for specific artistic achievements.

c) The following awards shall be attributed and may be accompanied by a monetary award, in case of sponsorships.
d) The Golden Dionysos, Silver Dionysos, Documentary, Audience and Queer awards are awarded to the Director of the film. The rest of the Awards are awarded to each artist (actor, photographer, editor etc.) It is expressly provided that awards may not be shared.

REQUESTED MATERIAL IN CASE OF SELECTION (*for all Competitions)
After the selection of films, the director/producer shall submit by the 26th of June 2023 the following:
Catalogue Material
a. Information related to the film: contributors, summary, director’s CV and filmography in Greek and in English
b. If the original language of the film is not Greek, a list of dialogues of the film in Greek must also be submitted. Otherwise, the film must be subtitled in Greek.
c. At least one (1) photograph of the film and one (1) of the director.
d. The declaration - license and guarantees of the author and / or producer of and / or rightholder over the film, as provided in Annex I hereof, signed.
Screening Material
Materials of the films for the final screening should be submitted by August 4, 2023.
The DCP for the cinematic screening and the other material described below must have been submitted or sent for reception to the offices of the Festival in Athens (Emm. Benaki 71, 10681 Athens) by August 4, 2023 and by 16.00 GMT. The following material shall be submitted:
a) Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in one of the following acceptable formats:
-DCP subtitled in English or Greek for films in a language different than Greek.
-Apple ProRes, subtitled in English or Greek for films in a language different than Greek.
-H264 subtitled in English or Greek for films in a language different than Greek.
-MPEG4, subtitled in English or Greek for films in a language different than Greek.
b) For the online screening on the platform of the Festival are additionally required:
-One (1) downloadable vimeo link, a film poster and a trailer.
-One (1) mp4 file of the final version of the film, subtitled in English or Greek for films in a language different than Greek, for the Film Market, as further defined in term VI hereof.
c) Signed statements of final technical check by the technical manager of the film and the director.
d) The screening copies of the selected films should be sent digitally to the email:

ANIMATION | SHORT & GREEN (*for all Competitions)

General Principles similar to the main Competition programs apply. Please read the full regulations for further information.
The pre-selection Committee may, in its sole discretion, approve one or more films submitted to the International/ Student/ National Competition Program, for their participation in other Programs in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation and in particular for the International Competition Programs: Short & Green and Animation, and for the (non-competition) Program: Cinematherapy Lab, provided that these films meet the general principles of this and the corresponding Competition program and after the consent of the candidates has been obtained.

Cinematherapy Lab
The Cultural Organisation may organize in Drama, from the 4th to the 10th of September 2023, the Cinematherapy Lab, during the Drama Short Film Festival. Three (3) or four (4) films that have been submitted to participate in the National Competition programe may be selected to be screened and further discussed and analyzed.
To be eligible for participation, films shall meet the following conditions:
B.a. Greek Premiere is required for the submission of films to the National Competition. Therefore, prior public performance, screening, broadcasting or rebroadcasting of their works to the public by radio and television by any means to the public in Greece or on-demand access in any way before or during the days of the Festival is not allowed. The presentation of the film shall be deemed to be public when the film becomes accessible to a circle of persons wider than the narrow circle of the family and the immediate social circle of the author, regardless of whether the persons of this wider circle are at the same or at different locations.
B.b. Films shall be completed within the years 2022 or 2023.
B.c. The DCP to be screened at the Festival shall be available in one of the formats provided for in this Regulation for a film screening and in one of the formats provided for in this Regulation for online screening.
B.d. Each director may participate in the Festival with only one (1) film.
B.e. Eligible film genres for participation: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental.
B.g. Films that have participated and were rejected by the Preliminary Committee may not be re-submitted.
• For the participation at Cinematherapy, no separate application is submitted. Films for this non-competitive section are selected from the Head of the section, upon the proposal of the Head of competitive programs.
• Application: Entry Procedure and Material
• Material: should be sent by the director or the producer, as defined in the National Competition.
• Awards: The Cultural Organization may upon its discretion announce awards for this category.

National Student Competition
General Principles
A. The National Student Competition of the Drama Short Film Festival will take
place from September 4 th to 10 th , 2023.
B. To be eligible for participation in National Student Competition, films shall
meet the following conditions:
B.a. Greek Premiere is required for the submission of films to the National
Student Competition. Therefore, prior public performance, screening,
broadcasting or rebroadcasting of the works to the public by radio and television
by any means to the public in Greece or on-demand access in any way before or
during the days of the Festival are not allowed. The presentation of the film shall
be deemed to be public when the film becomes accessible to a circle of persons
wider than the narrow circle of the family and the immediate social circle of the
author, regardless of whether the persons of this wider circle are at the same or
at different locations.
B.b. Films shall be completed within the year 2022 or 2023.
B.c. The DCP to be screened at the Festival shall be available in one of the
formats provided for in this Regulation for film screening and in one of the
formats provided for in this Regulation for online screening.
B.d. No restriction shall apply regarding the number of films to be submitted by
each film school. Each director may participate in the Festival with only one (1)
film.
B.e. Film genres that may participate: fiction films, documentary films, animated
films, experimental films.
B.f. The Preliminary Committee may, in its sole discretion, approve one or more
films submitted to the present Competition Program, for further participation in
other Programs in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation and in
particular for the international competition sections Short & Green, Animation
International, Competition Program and for the Program – Cinematherapy Lab
provided that these films meet the general principles of this and the
corresponding Competition program and after the consent of the candidates has
been obtained
B.g. Films that have participated and were rejected by the Preliminary
Committee may not be submitted.
1.1. Deadline for application – Application fee
a. The application form and a digital copy of the film shall be submitted through
the website www.filmfreeway.com by May 15th, 2023 electronically.
Submission through other platforms may also be announced.
1.2. Application: Entry Procedure and Material
The applicant shall submit by May 15, 2023, the following:
a. The completed application in all required fields.
b. The declaration - license and guarantees of the author and / or producer of and /
or rightholder over the film, as provided in Annex I hereof, signed.
c. A non-public link of the film for the preliminary committee (a downloadable
secure / password-protected link, available until the announcement of the results of
the preliminary committee).
d. If the original language of the film is not Greek, a list of dialogues of the film in
Greek must also be submitted. Otherwise, the film must be subtitled in Greek.
e. At least one (1) photograph/screenshot of the film (300 dpi).
The files submitted with the application form remain in the Festival Archive, as
defined in term V hereof. When submitting the application, the producer declares
whether he wishes the inclusion of the film in the Film Market, as defined in term VI
hereof and in accordance with the specific terms to be notified to the applicants.

International Kids’ Film Competition KIDDO
The Drama International Short Film Festival’s longstanding contribution in educating the students of the city of Drama includes educational programmes for children, with screenings and filmmaking workshops for kids. We are now happy to announce the launch of ‘Kido’, the Festival’s new competition section which will include films created not only by adult filmmakers, but also by children and young people. This is a competition section for filmmakers whose creations will address children and young people, and which will touch upon contemporary issues. It will also provide the opportunity for young creators to submit their own films; films created by children for children, which will seek to trigger their imagination and cultivate their aesthetic perception.
The competitive nature of the ‘Kido’ section aims to prepare not only young cinephiles, but also those who will become the future creators in the field of cinema.
General Principles
A. The International Kids’ Film Competition Drama Kiddo of the Drama Short
Film Festival will take place from September 4 th to 10 th , 2023.
B. To be eligible for participation in International Kids’ Film Competition, films
shall meet the following conditions:
B.a. Greek Premiere is required for the submission of films to the Competition.

GENERAL TERMS (*for all Competitions)
a) The Artistic Director of DISFF reserves the right to compile the Festival's program and implement changes wherever necessary.
b) The submitter is responsible for clearing rights and permissions concerning each submission. The festival holds no liability.
c) The pre-selection of the films is made by a group of professionals of cinema and/or the artistic/ cultural sector who are suggested to the Administrative Board by the Artistic Director, who also supervises their work.
d) The Final selection, programming, and any changes are proposed by the Artistic Director.
e) The film's screener remains with the Festival’s Film Market.
f) The Festival reserves the right to digitize the submitted films for the needs of the Film Market and its Archive.
g) Film excerpts that might be broadcast on television or the internet should not exceed the duration of 3 minutes or 10% of the total running time of the film.
h) The Festival reserves the right to publish film information, including the contact info of the director and the producer.
i) Hospitality: The festival aims to invite one director or representative of each film that have been selected to be part of DISFF In Competition Program. Hotel accommodation and daily meals are provided. These provisions are subject to change without prior notice, due to budget controls. Personalized information will be provided upon selection.
j) Transportation costs for preview material and prints submitted to the competition program shall be covered by the applicant. The Festival will undertake the costs of returning and securing the films as long as they are in the possession of the Festival.
k) In case of loss or damage under the Festival’s liability, the Festival undertakes the cost of making a new copy of that film.
l) Films that have participated and/or been rejected by the Committee before, may not be submitted again.
m) Any dispute concerning the present regulations will be judged and settled by the President of the Festival.
n) Any legal disputes can only be settled by the local Legal Courts of Drama.
o) The languages of the festival are English and Greek.
