UPDATE: NEW CATEGORY for ANY film made during LOCKDOWN !

UPDATE : WE HAVE EXTENDED OUR FINAL CLOSING DATE TO ACCOMMODATE FILM MAKERS WHOSE PROJECTS WERE SCUPPERED BY COVID! Hopefully the extension will give creatives time to finish filming and editing and we look forward to viewing your completed works! Stay safe! :).

FURTHER UPDATE - 07/12/21 Sadly, despite having moved this event date twice, in conjunction with our amazing city centre location, it seems that Covid and the restrictions imposed by it means that the winners of the categories in this festival will now have to be announced online. So sorry folks as we were so looking forward to screenings at the venue but after many discussions (and prayers that the festival would take place in the format detailed below) this doesn't seem possible. After the announcements of the online winners, runners up, etc can obviously download their laurels. Hopefully we'll be able to have a physical festival with screenings, talks, Q&As etc next time! Grrrrr. Stay safe everyone. Further updates on our facebook page as well as here.

Welcome to Jump Cuts Film Festival which will showcase the work of film-makers across the globe. This exciting new event is taking place in the centre of Leeds in September 2020 and will be FREE for anyone to attend. The venue is actually only 0.7 miles from where the world’s very first films were made on Leeds Bridge in 1888 by Louis le Prince - a perfect photo opportunity for film-makers should they wish to do selfies at the plaque only a 3 minute walk away!

The Festival is only a 9 minute walk from Leeds City Train Station and there's plenty of parking very close by. Today Leeds is a leading centre for film culture in a major European region for filmmaking, and at the time of the festival will be the home of new Channel 4 offices and studios.

Talking of Channel 4, one of the guest judges will be Mushy Asghar, from Channel Four’s 'Educating Yorkshire', who'll also be presenting awards, including one for the most inspirational/motivational film. This can be in any area.

Stand up comedian Liam Tulley, who won the 'King Gong' at The Comedy Store in 2014 and who's sharp observations and dry witted humour have since helped him to become a 'So You Think You're Funny' Semi-Finalist, a 'Hilarity Bites' finalist and 'Laughing Horse New Act of the Year' Semi-finalist will also be judging the Best Comedy.

The Music Video category will be judged by musicians who regularly perform at The Cavern Club in Liverpool - the cradle of British pop music and the club where the Beatles musical identity was formed!

Submissions are invited from across the world and there’ll also be a special category for Yorkshire film-makers.

Time allowing we’ll also be having selected Q&As with a couple of directors/producers.

NB - SEE ABOVE UPDATES FOLLOWING COVID TIER/LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS

Winners of the various categories will be announced by several people on the day, including Mushy Asghar from Channel Four's 'Educating Yorkshire'.

UPDATE - As per update in 'Event Description' winners will now be announced online both here and on our facebook page.

  • Bloody Bandit

Wonderful festival by people who truly care about film.

The email we got back from Aidey alongside the update on our award win and nomination was detailed, well thought about and really lovely. The passion that this team feels for film really shone through.

Definitely a festival we will be submitting to again! Hopefully in future we will get to meet in person!

    Response from festival:

Thank you Bloody Bandit (great name!) for your praise! We loved watching your film with its gritty Yorkshire realism... and the zero budget in no way showed in it's high production values .. and the performances were top quality! Fantastic example of how you don't need mega bucks to tell an engaging story. I look forward to seeing what's next - when this covid-19 pandemic is conquered!

  • Thanks for including Zone 38 in this years festival, hopefully next year we can get back into the theatres.

    Response from festival:

Thank you so much Norma... Brilliant documentary with a particular fascination for me as I had family who were miners in the West Midlands. Keep up the good work!

  • Gavin Irvine

It was an honour and privilege to be part of this festival and I was thrilled that my film received two semi-finalist spots - one for Best Comedy and the other for Best Young Actress. Communication with the festival was exemplary and 100% I'll be entering my films into this festival again as I'd love to get up to Leeds and network and make new friends. Bravo guys, fab festival!

Thank you so much Gavin... Brilliant comedy - and Verity Coverdale Firth's delivery of 'mummy was absolutely GUZZLING it in the boozer!' will stay with me a long time haha - really ace comedy performances all round :) Good luck with all future ventures when this covid thing ends!
