The Almaty Film Festival ("AFF") is organized by Astana Film Fund by the order and with the support of Almaty Government (Kazakhstan).
AFF aims to become of the major film festivals in the region bringing together multi-polar and multicultural world of the cinema. It carries not only an important cultural mission, but also one of peace-making and integration, by uniting filmmakers of different countries and by promoting fruitful future cooperation.
Film submissions for the 1st edition of AFF, running from September 15-19, 2018 in Almaty, are now open.

Almaty Film Festival Awards
Grand prix - 3.000.000 tenge. The prize will be awarded to the producer(s) of the winning film.
Best Director - 2.000.000 tenge. The prize will be awarded to the director(s) of the winning film.
Best Actor - 1.000.000 tenge. The price will be awarded to the winning actor of the film.
Best Actress - 1.000.000 tenge. The price will be awarded to the winning actress of the film.
Special Jury price - 1.000.000 tenge. The price will be awarded depending on the Jury decision.

RULES & REGULATIONS

If you wish to have your film considered for AFF 2018 please read carefully and accept the Rules and Regulations before submitting your film.
Please note AFF is only accepting submissions for in competition section (feature films), however all other sections in AFF's Official Programme are solely curated by AFF's programming team.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
- In order to be eligible for the Official Competition, your film must be a co-production of several countries (two countries minimum).
- In order to be eligible for the Official Competition, your film have been completed after September 2017 (i.e., films must have been completed by September 2017 or thereafter in order to be considered for the September 2018 Festival)
- AFF requires that the feature film is at minimum Kazakhstan premiere. Exceptions maybe applied on a case-by-case basis for film in AFF's Official Programme.
- Films must not have been entirely or partially broadcasted and/or made available on television, the internet, mobile phones and/or any other public viewing platform until Almaty Film Festival edition (15-19 September).
- Films must not have been released in the cinemas in Kazakhstan until Almaty Film Festival edition.
- Films must be a work of fiction that equal or exceed 60 minutes in duration.
JURY

The Juries and their Presidents are appointed by the Festival Team. The decisions of the Juries are taken by open ballot, with simple majority. Persons who have any connection with films presented in the competition cannot be on the Jury.

AWARDS
Almaty Film Festival Awards

SUBMISSIONS
- Deadline: Entries of online submission forms in English and/or Russian and film screeners must be completed and submitted by July 15th, 2018.
- Any submissions received after July 15th, 2018 will not be accepted.
- All films must be submitted in their original language. If the original language of the film is not in English, the screener must be subtitled in English.
- If you are submitting a 'work-in-progress' film please ensure that this is clearly stated on the submission form with the final title of the film and not the working title. For the avoidance of doubt, all other terms related to submissions shall be herein applicable.

SELECTED FILMS
The relevant selection committee will at its own discretion select the films for the Official Programme either in AFF Competition or Out-of-Competition sections.
If a film is selected for the Official Programme, AFF will send an official selection letter before the end of June and will advise of further requirements and next steps.
AFF hereby reserves the first right to announce the Official Programme. All those associated with the film selected shall in no case, prior to the official announcement made by AFF, publicly announce directly or indirectly and confirm that the film is part of the Official Programme.

The Official Programme will be announced in August 2018.

If a film has not been selected, AFF will inform the submitter by letter prior to the announcement of the Official Programme. However, it is AFF's policy not to provide any feedback, comments or reasons for films that are not selected.

Once a film is selected and confirmed, the submitter will not be able to withdraw the film or change the Premiere status of the film at any given time before it is screened at AFF.

SCREENINGS & SCHEDULING
Selected films will be screened up to two times to AFF's public audiences. At the discretion of AFF, the film prior to AFF's public festival screenings may receive additional screenings one for the accredited press and one for the jury amounting to a possible 4 screenings in total.
AFF will at its sole discretion decide on the dates and order of the screening(s) of each film.

TRANSPORT AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR PRINTS
- The prints should reach the Festival Office in Almaty (in accordance with Shipping Instructions) August 31th at the latest.
- Kazakh Producers deliver the prints to the Festival Office at their own expense.
- For non-Kazakh films the cost of prints' transportation, if not agreed otherwise, is covered by AFF:
a/ to and from Kazakhstan, if the print is transported from and to the lending company (Producer/Sales Agent);
b/ one way (to Kazakhstan only), if the print is transported along a chain of festivals.
- The Festival is responsible for the prints from the moment of pick-up from the shipper (when importing) to the moment of giving them to the shipper (when re-exporting). The Festival's responsibility for damage or loss of the print is limited to the cost of making a new print according to the present laboratory rate for making a standard print.
- Damage to the film print must be reported to the Festival Office in writing within one month of its return and before the following screening. All claims will be judged by the reported state of the print.

LANGUAGE VERSIONS AND SUBTITLES
In-competition films will be screened in their original languages with English and Russian subtitles. The English subtitles are obligatory for all the films.
The prints must be provided to the festival with English subtitles.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND UNDERTAKING
Submission and participation in the Official Programme is an explicit acceptance of the Rules and Regulations.
The submitter hereby represents and warrants that he/she holds all rights in and to the film and its related materials and that he/she has the authority and capacity to submit the film and its related material for the Official Programme on behalf of the rights holder(s) of the film.
Except as stated in the Rules and Regulations, the submitter acknowledges that AFF shall not be held liable or responsible in any manner whatsoever for any loss or damage of whatever type or nature incurred as a result of the submission, acceptance and/or screening of the film and/or its related material. Furthermore, the submitter undertakes to indemnify and keep AFF indemnified against all liabilities, claims, demands, actions, costs, damages or loss arising out of the submission, acceptance and/or screening of the film and/or its related material.
The submitter also understands and acknowledges that the online submission form and the Rules and Regulations is a consolidated and unified document and therefore the online submission form shall be considered as incorporated herein by reference.
In the event that the submitter is found to be in violation of any condition of the Rules and Regulations, AFF at its sole discretion may choose to cancel and eliminate such film from the Official Programme without any liability whatsoever.
