Celebrate and share your passion for independent film. The festival recognizes the very best of world cinema from over 90 countries around the world. This year's festival program will award a wide variety of North American and International Feature Films to thought-provoking Shorts, Documentaries, Music Videos, Animations, Experimental Films, Student Films, a Screenplay Competition, and more.

Each year, awards are presented in all of the main categories for the top films and filmmakers, writers and actors. The highly coveted Grand Jury Award will be presented to the best film in competition selected from among all the films entered in the festival.

Held at the beautiful Edgewater Casino in downtown Vancouver from 2009 to 2016, this year we have transitioned to an awards based, online film and screenplay competition. Films are not physically screened for the public. Awards are announced on our official website as well as promoted via Internet.

Screenplay Competition
In an effort to foster new and undiscovered writing talent, the Canada International Film Festival also features an annual Screenplay Contest. Awards are given for the top screenplays in three competition categories, features, shorts, and television scripts. All films and screenplays featured in the Canada International Film Festival are selected based only on the overall quality and merits of the work. We aim to discover and recognize simply the best new, original voices in storytelling from around the world.

Great ceremony! I've been there twice. Unfortunately not enough films and shorts that won end up to be screened, they should show more but everything else is great.

I had a wonderful time at this festival and would certainly love to attend again. The venue was beautiful, the screenings took place on a very large screen in a theater, the staff was professional and friendly, the selected films were very good, and overall we had a lovely time.
