Great festival with a proper opening gala, a cursing festival general, and a very funny award show. Great for networking and meeting other filmmakers and getting some attention to your work.

Amazing opportunity to network at more than a one red carpets event and cocktail parties. The Sorvinos and Christian Kieber run a first class festival with a huge range of international films. Because the screenings are in numerous venues, you really need to make your own schedule of particular films you would want to see. This was our second year in this highly recommended festival.

  • I must say personally this was an incredible experience. To be invited to screen at Golden Door, in New Jersey and have my family and friends was more than I can ask...and we won an award Best Concept of a Short.

It’s a fun event and it just has this raw beauty. Awards night was pretty spectacular. It’s really a cool festival, smack dead in the heart of Jersey City.

There were some amazing films there! I would submit again and I recommend this festival.

Thank you to Bill and Michelle Sorvino!

  • this festival is huge and good place to meet folks and make some connections. The main theater at Journal Square in Jersey City is dope. A historic venue. I would certainly submit again in the future. Bill Sorvino is a hard working boss man who has an energetic and dedicated team to pull off this huge festival. Thanks for having my film Gay Baby screen at Golden Door 2019

Overall, this was an okay festival. They do a good job having great afterparties, and the main venue is unbelievable! So, we spent our time there watching work rather than the others, because that is my major critique. Now, the other venues. Not that great. It seems like they have stretched themselves too thin with accepting WAY too many films which causes them to put shorts and other films in small venues that are NOT ideal for screening work. Our shorts block was in a conference style room that was SOOO bright from light leak. At one point a streak of light worked its way slowly onto the actual screen. There was no tech person to fix the problem, so a filmmaker took it into his own hands to adjust the really poorly planned black dropd drops. Another issue is hardly any of the volunteers know anything. They are just clueless. I know they are volunteers, but when asking what block is in which room, they should know. When filmmakers walk into the main venue, they shouldn't just stare at them. OVERALL, scale it down, do better marketing, (nobody local knew anything) find a few good venues, and make the overall experience better.
