Filmfest homochrom in Cologne and Dortmund is one of the younger of about 24 LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans*, intersex, queer) film festivals in Germany. But it grew quickly since its formation in 2011, and in its fifth year it became the second-largest and -influencial. It takes place in one of Europe’s biggest metropolitan areas, Rhine-Ruhr – Cologne being Germany’s gay capital with 10% LGBTIQ inhabitants, and Dortmund being a football and former steel and beer city. We are giving our best to establish an outstanding programme. That’s why we are looking for outstanding films – premieres preferred.
After years of establishing the festival under precarious conditions, the future of homochrom depends on higher funding and livable wages. In the end the decisions of the cultural offices of Cologne and Dortmund, the state North Rhine-Westfalia as well as the state’s film fund Film- und Medienstiftung NRW will tell, if LGBT (film) culture is wanted and appreciated in Germany’s most populous stated – after all, there aren’t so many other cultural LGBT projects receiving funding or support in NRW.
audience award "Chromie" for a) feature-length fiction, b) feature-length documentary, and c) short films in three competitive programmes (lesbian, gay, and trans*-queer)
