Diana Kasem is a Ph.D. student and an instructor in Communication at UMass Amherst, where she has taught courses such as Introduction to Film Studies. She received a master's degree in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University, and is a recipient of Jusoor Scholarship. She earned her M.A. in Art History from the Belarusian State Academy of Arts and two bachelor degrees in English Literature and Theater Studies in Syria, where she lectured at the Higher Institute of Theater in Damascus. Some of her theses include Searching for Hamlet Again and Theatre and Screen Art of the Late 20th and the Early 21st Century. She is also a published author, whose story for children, The Apple Girl, received an award from the Syrian Ministry of Culture in 2009. An experimental filmmaker, she has written and directed multiple projects shown at international film festivals, such as Al-Ard Doc Film Festival (Italy, 2013), Everyday Arias (UK, 2017), Tiba Short Film Festival (Egypt, 2013). She founded 7GATES, a platform for supporting art and culture.

Diana Kasem è una studentessa di dottorato e un’insegnate di comunicazione alla UMass Amherst, dove ha tenuto corsi come “Introduzione agli studi cinematografici”. Ha ottenuto una laurea magistrale in Cultura Moderna e Media alla Brown University, ed è una dei beneficiari della borsa di studio Jusoor. Ha conseguito una laurea magistrale in storia dell'arte presso l'Accademia statale delle arti bielorussa e due lauree brevi in letteratura inglese e studi teatrali in Siria, dove ha insegnato presso l'Istituto superiore di teatro di Damasco. Fra le sue tesi troviamo “Searching for Hamlet Again” e “Theatre and Screen Art of the Late 20th and the Early 21st Century”. È anche un'autrice pubblicata e la sua storia per bambini The Apple Girl è stata premiata dal Ministero della Cultura siriano nel 2009. Filmmaker sperimentale, ha scritto e diretto diversi progetti presentati in festival internazionali, come Al-Ard Doc Film Festival (Italia, 2013), Everyday Arias (Regno Unito, 2017), Tiba Short Film Festival (Egitto, 2013). Ha fondato 7GATES, una piattaforma per sostenere l'arte e la cultura.
