The SmallRig Awards were established to recognize and support visual storytellers who focus on addressing social issues. We believe in the power of storytelling to effect meaningful change and improve the world for future generations.

Since our founding in 2013, SmallRig has maintained close communication and collaboration with our users for over a decade. This ongoing partnership has led to the development of four major user-oriented product lines, widely utilized across various fields such as live broadcasting, vlogging, short videos, weddings, professional commercials, radio and television, documentaries, and even Hollywood filmmaking.

Our goal has always been to provide the public with lightweight, high-quality equipment that empowers them to capture compelling stories in everyday life. With the SmallRig Awards, we are expanding this mission to not only support the creation of these stories but also to discover important narratives, nurture emerging storytelling talents, and contribute to a better world.

We are seeking compelling stories that highlight social issues on a global scale, including, but not limited to, marginalized communities lacking representation, global warming, animal conservation, economic and social inequality, health crises, cultural and social divides, and gender inequality.

The awards will be adjudicated by our final jury panel, considering factors such as storytelling technique, production quality, and artistic creativity.

The call for entries is now open, and submissions will close on November 2024.

  • After selection it took a long time before they communicated with us (and other film makers). They then said that selection means not really selected, which is odd. Only the final nominations would be mentioned on their website.
This eventually happened for some films, but a LOT later than the event date mentioned. What happened after that is still unknown, and what "selected" means also.

It would've been nice if they also included a list of films that got selected, but did not go through to the finals, because it in the end being selected really meant nothing.

Unfortunate, because SmallRig is a well known brand.

  • Definitely one of the best experiences I've ever had. The event organizers were masterful, treating each of the finalists from around the world as undisputed winners. Very well organized, with a top-notch jury and multiple events related to cinema and its language.
This event has a bright future.
