Our new festival dates are August 14-16.
As it was last year, the Hastings Museum is hosting us at their Superscreen Theater.
Friday night, August 14 at 7:00pm, we will screen a movie starring the late-Sandy Dennis, Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. The movie was filmed in 1982 and features Cher, Karen Black, and Kathy Bates.
Saturday morning, August 15, at 10:00am is the time for filmmakers to register.
Saturday morning at 10:30am, short films submitted by independent filmmakers will be screened. With a break for lunch and dinner, the films will continue until 9pm.
Saturday evening at 9:00pm awards will be announced. Remember, this year the winner of Best Nebraska Film will receive a check for $500 – provided by anonymous donors.
Sunday, August 16 starting at noon, short films submitted by students will be screened. At 4pm, the Wayne State film, Ever Fallen, will be shown.
COVID-19 precautions are in effect. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
Sandy Dennis was an Academy award winning actress born in Hastings. Her acting style has been described as quirky and offbeat. Yet she also possessed great emotional range. We are looking for films directed by women or that feature strong and memorable female characters. Roles that Sandy herself would have found intriguing.
Best Nebraska-made film wins $200 cash!
Awards will be presented for Best Short Narrative film, Best Short Documentary film, Nebraskan Filmmaker Award , Best Actress, Best Supporting Player and Audience Choice Award: ACA will be determined by a numbered ranking of films by audience members after each block, paper ballots will be used and tallied at the end of the festival. Student films are not considered for competition.
