  • A Celebration of Vision, Voice, and Community — A Review of the Biennal Internacional Dona i Cinema in Valencia

Attending the Biennal Internacional Dona i Cinema – Mujer y Cine – Woman & Film in Valencia was an unforgettable experience — not only as a filmmaker but as a woman deeply moved by the power of storytelling. The festival creates an atmosphere that is both profoundly artistic and warmly communal, making it a true celebration of women's cinema from around the world.

From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the thoughtful curation of the program. The selection of films was diverse, bold, and deeply human, each one offering a unique perspective while collectively speaking to the strength, resilience, creativity, and complexity of women’s experiences. What truly sets Dona i Cinema apart is its spirit. The team behind the festival — from the organisers to the volunteers — radiates passion and purpose. Their commitment to fostering a space for underrepresented voices goes beyond programming; it’s embedded in every interaction. I left Dona i Cinema feeling inspired, recharged, and deeply connected — to other filmmakers, to audiences, and to the greater purpose of why we tell stories in the first place.

I wholeheartedly recommend this festival to any filmmaker, especially women and non-binary creators seeking a meaningful platform for their work. Dona i Cinema is more than a festival — it’s a movement, and one I’m proud to have been part of.
