Crossing: Shibuya AI Film Competition is an international film competition exploring how filmmakers are crossing into new creative territory through AI, hybrid production, and place-based storytelling.

Open to creators worldwide, the competition invites AI-made films, hybrid films combining AI and live action, and Shibuya-centered works that respond to the city as a creative prompt.

Selected winning films will be showcased at the Shibuya AI Film Gallery, presented during DIG SHIBUYA 2026.

Beyond competition, Crossing is about discovery and connecting emerging creators, experimenting with new tools, and sharing how storytelling is evolving in real time. Filmmakers gain international exposure, curatorial recognition, and the opportunity to have their work presented in Shibuya alongside other forward-looking creators.

Winning entries will be screened at the Shibuya AI Film Gallery on February 14th and 15th.

This exhibition is participating in the DIG SHIBUYA 2026 Art x Tech Festival (https://digshibuya.com/), which is presented by the SHIBUYA CREATIVE TECH Executive Committee in partnership with Shibuya City.

Crossing: Shibuya AI Film Competition 2025 — Official Rules

Welcome to the first-ever Crossing: Shibuya AI Film Competition! By submitting a film, you agree to the following Official Rules. These rules are designed to keep the festival fair, safe, and fun for everyone.

1. Organizer “AIMovie.Studio”
- Crossing: Shibuya AI Film Competition 2025 is hosted by AIMovie.Studio, a Tokyo-based international AI video community.

2. Eligibility
- The Festival is open to:
- Anyone 18 years or older (or the local legal age of majority where you live, if higher).
- Residents of any location where participation in a film festival is not prohibited by law.

- The competition is not open to residents of countries or regions where participation is restricted by law.

- Employees or direct representatives of the Competition organizers, and members of their immediate families or households, may not enter. Event volunteers are eligible to submit entries, provided they are not involved in the judging or final selection process.

- Participants may enter as individuals or as Teams. If entering as a Team, you must choose one representative (“Team Leader”) who will handle communication with the Competition.

- By entering, you represent and warrant that you are not currently, and will not in the future be, a member of or affiliated with an organized crime syndicate, a gangster, or any other anti-social force. You further agree not to engage in violent demanding behavior or unreasonable demands beyond legal responsibility.

3. Entry Period
- Submission opens: December 15th 2025
- Submission deadline: January 31th 2025
- All entries must be submitted before the deadline.

4. How to Enter
To participate, you must create a film (1–10 minutes) that includes AI-generated effect/video content and falls into one of the following entry categories:
- Hybrid AI Film: Live-action footage combined with AI-generated effects or generated video.
- Full AI Film: Footage generated entirely by AI.
- Shibuya Film: A story set in Shibuya.

Any AI video tools may be used. Submit your film through the official Competition submission form. You will be asked for a link to your video and a short description of how AI was used in the creation process.
- Ensure your entry is complete and final. Entries cannot be edited after submission.

5. Submission Guidelines
The selection of works is conducted based on the Guidelines of DIG SHIBUYA and AIMovie.Studio.

By entering, you confirm that:
- You (or your Team) created the film and own or have permission for all rights, including video, images, music, artwork, text, and any AI-generated content.
- The film does not violate the rights of any person or entity (copyright, privacy, trademark, etc.).
- The film is safe for public viewing and complies with all laws in the place where it was made.

The film does not contain:
- Hate speech, discrimination, or harassment
- Explicit or pornographic material
- Graphic violence or illegal acts
- Defamatory content
- Dangerous or harmful activities
- Viruses, malware, or anything that could damage computers or platforms
- Expressions that discriminate against or harm specific individuals or groups, or that otherwise cause undue discomfort or harm to society
- Content that violates public order and morality or fails to uphold human rights
- Materials or content harmful to human health.

You will take responsibility for any claims that arise from breaching these rules.
The Competition may disqualify entries that break these guidelines.

By participating in this competition, you agree to abide by the DIG SHIBUYA Code of Conduct.
- Inclusion: We expect all participants to respect community members regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual identity and orientation, disability, nationality, or personal appearance.
- Zero Tolerance: Any form of harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or bullying will not be tolerated.
- Violations: If the organizers determine that a violation of this Code has occurred, actions may be taken ranging from a warning to removal from the community and disqualification from the competition.

6. Judging and Selection
- Films will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Competition. They will score each film based on:

1. Story
2. Direction (vision and execution)
3. Artistic/creative expression
4. Originality
5. Technical Visual Quality
6. Sound

Judges’ decisions are final. Scores will not be made public.
Selected films and creators will be announced publicly on the Competition’s website and social channels.

7. Verification
If your film is selected, the Competition may ask you to provide:
- Proof of age
- Proof of residency

Additional confirmation that you own the rights to your film
If a selected creator does not respond within a reasonable time or cannot verify eligibility, the Competition may choose another entrant.

8. Publicity
By entering, you agree that:
The Competition may publicly display your name, film title, and details about your participation.

The Competition may promote your film on social media, websites, and event materials to showcase the Competition and its participants.

No additional permission or compensation is required for these uses.

9. Rights to Your Film
You keep ownership of your film.
However, by submitting, you grant the Competition a non-exclusive, worldwide license to:
- Screen your film during the Gallery event
- Display it on the Competition websites or social media
- Use clips or stills in promotional materials for this and future Competition events

This license allows the Competition to promote your work while you still retain all rights to your film.

10. Limitation of Liability
By participating, you agree that the Competition and its organizers are not responsible for:
- Technical issues (internet outages, upload failures, platform errors)
- Damage to personal devices or files
- Lost, late, or incomplete submissions
- Any issues arising from your participation or your film content

Any attempt to tamper with or disrupt the Competition may result in disqualification.

11. General Conditions & Changes

- Subject to Change: All aspects of the Competition and these Official Rules are subject to change at the Organizer’s discretion. The Organizer reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the Competition or any participant’s entry if deemed necessary due to technical failures, fraud, or reasons beyond its control.

- Event Cancellation: Specifically regarding the Shibuya AI Film Gallery: If the event is cancelled due to strict regulations or unforeseen circumstances, the Organizer will attempt to reschedule the event at a similar venue and time. Please note that rescheduling may take time. If the event is fully cancelled and no alternative event takes place, applicable fees will be refunded.

12. Governing Law
These rules are governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes will be handled in courts located in Tokyo.

13. Privacy
- Any personal information collected is used for Competition administration, communication, and promotion.

- By participating, you acknowledge that we may share necessary information with our official partners for the purpose of the Competition.
