Subrata Sen was born in Kolkata in 1963. He went to South Point High School and Presidency College and became a journalist with a mainline Kolkata newspaper. He served as a journalist in New Delhi also. He made his first film Ej Je Achhe Kanya in 2000, which besides being awarded as a best Debut Film was premiered internationally at Karlovy Vary Film Festival. His second film Swapner Feriwala (2001) also made it to Karlovy Vary and was picked up by Variety magazine as a part of Variety’s Critics Award films.
Subrata Sen was credited to have done the first digital film in India, Nil Nirjone, in 2002.
Sen was never a prolific filmmaker. He made a few Independent films for the local audience and also is a novelist and author.
He has made twelve feature length films so far.
