Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival was created in honor of Brett Jones who had a passion for film, had graduated from the University of Arizona with a BFA, and had begun his career in the film industry prior to his passing on January 4th, 2024. Along with his passion for film, Brett had a passion for helping others, particularly film students. We want to honor his two passions by dedicating much of the film festival to Kansas and Arizona high school and college films. We hope to support and encourage all current and aspiring filmmakers.

Thank you for your interest in the Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival, which will be held January 16th and 17th, 2027, in Derby, Kansas. The following is a list of rules and terms:

Submission Eligibility: All entries must have a connection to Kansas or Arizona through at least one of the following:

*Location: Filmed on location in Kansas or Arizona.

*Talent: Filmmaker, cast, or crew member originally from or currently residing in either state.

*Education: The filmmaker has past or present educational ties to a school or university in Kansas or Arizona.

Regular submission will be from April 18, 2026, to October 18, 2026. Late waivers may be approved, but are not guaranteed. High School and College Students may have more leniency due to a lack of equipment and guidance during the summer months.

***Student films must be submitted with a copy of a current, valid student identification card.***

Films must be submitted through filmfreeway.com. A synopsis of your film and a movie poster or digital stills that represent your film are required along with your submission.

Films must have been made after January 1, 2021.

We do not have a premiere status rule. We encourage submission to other film festivals as we support filmmakers and their right to share their work. However, we ask that you not pull your film after submission to our film festival because of another film festival’s premiere status, as this disrupts our programming. Please be mindful before submitting.

All films with non-English dialogue must contain English subtitles. (Film credits are not required to be subtitled)

Films that contain nudity, visual violence, content of a highly sexual nature, or extensive use of profanity may be labeled inappropriate for small children in the program listings.

Films selected as official entries may be used to promote the festival, including the use of trailers and images on social media and the film festival website, with credit to the filmmaker.

Films distributed, produced, financed, or initiated by a major film studio or television network are not eligible.

Submission implies acceptance of the rules and terms by all producers, directors and/or their agents submitting material.

Film submission does not guarantee entry.

Once an entry payment has been processed, we cannot provide a refund. If a payment is disputed, the account holder may incur fees.

Filmmakers will receive a notification on whether their film is accepted or not by November 21, 2026.

All Laurels will be emailed. All awards will be handed out at the film festival and must be picked up by you or a designated representative.

All determinations will be made by Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival programmers and judges and will be final. Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any film.

Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival reserves the right to reschedule festival dates in the event of unforeseen circumstances, including inclement weather, as we do not want anyone driving in dangerous conditions. If such a situation occurs, all entrants will be advised as soon as possible. For this reason, all submissions must include a reliable email for notification. We will not call entrants.

  • This was my second year and second film at Old Times Not Forgotten. This is the most filmmaker-centric film festival I have ever been to! The organizers do a fantastic job, and it is simply a joy to attend.

  • My film "Passing the Leash" won the most original film award. For the low entry fee that was paid, they really did a great job going above and beyond at taking care of the filmmakers; from the swag bag, the passes, a catered lunch and film equipment prize giveaway. I forgot my business cards but they even made some up for each filmmaker to put in the swag bag. They organized a dinner for the filmmakers to attend on one of the nights. Communication was great as there was a group chat. I think a filmmakers lounge would've been a nice touch just for a place to retreat to if needed and have other filmmakers there. Also the opportunity to have more speakers or workshops could've been a nice addition. But overall, an impressive little festival. Thank you!

  • For its first year, this festival went above and beyond to meet expectations. Debbie and Donna were such incredible hosts. The hospitality of this festival was top notch. There were so many great opportunities to meet the other filmmakers also. I made friendships and connections that will last a lifetime. I know this festival is very special to them, and I can't think of a better way to honor Brett's memory. Thank you for a truly incredible experience in Derby! I can't wait until next year.
