Jamie Hoyt is an award-winning writer, director, and producer who earned her Associate of Arts in Theater and a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies with concentrations in Literature, Psychology, and Communication from Wichita State University. She also spent a semester in London studying literature and theater. After completing her undergraduate studies, she earned a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing with a concentration in screenwriting from Southern New Hampshire University. Her thesis feature-length western screenplay, Dust Riders, was a semifinalist in the 2019 WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Competition.
A disabled veteran, Jamie served four years in the United States Air Force as Security Forces. She later worked for four years in the juvenile justice system and spent many years in education as both a substitute teacher and an English adjunct professor at the college level.
A filmmaker and true renaissance woman with a passion for travel, Jamie has explored a wide range of countries, cultures, and life experiences (including surviving cancer twice.) She is currently documenting her holistic healing journey in a documentary titled The Examined Life, which chronicles her three-week stay in Ecuador under the care of the Quechua tribe.
As a filmmaker and screenwriter, Jamie is drawn to stories that challenge, uplift, and provoke thought. Through Lunar Spell Productions, the independent production company she founded, she creates work that invites audiences to confront darkness, question power structures, examine social injustice, find resilience, discover hope in unexpected places, and elevate underrepresented voices.
Her work often balances satire and drama while embracing sharp wit, dark undertones, and femme-driven narratives that explore themes of resilience and accountability.
Her creative credits include dancing with Weird Al Yankovic on four tours, writing television commercials, directing and producing music videos, and filming celebrity interviews for film and television.
She has also directed and acted for film and stage, modeled, and served as Associate Producer of the national and international award-winning documentary This Is Love. Her short screenplay, Widow’s Badge, along with her other works, has earned multiple screenwriting awards, and she has received additional recognition for her directing style.
Jamie is passionate about empowering women and was an original co-founder and producer of American Rose Theater, a vaudevillian performance troupe. She has also contributed as a writer for The Liberty Press and OUT in Kansas.
Jamie currently resides in Kansas City with her fiancé, their five cats, and her service dog.
