All genres welcome! If you have a narrative, documentary, experimental or animated short film that is a little off-kilter, we want to see it!

Requirements and terms:
• Short films under 30 minutes in length. Feature films are not eligible.
• Open to all Australian filmmakers. This is a national festival so we unfortunately do not accept submissions from outside Australia.
• Narrative, documentary and animation shorts of any genre accepted (off beat/weird films encouraged!)
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use: Films that are wholly or primarily generated using artificial intelligence are not eligible for submission. AI-assisted tools used as part of a human-led filmmaking process are permitted. Significant use of generative AI must be disclosed at the time of submission, and the festival reserves the right to determine eligibility.
• Student films are accepted.
• You must secure permission from the rights holders of any and all copyrighted and/or trademarked content or materials included within your film.
• No premiere requirements, but premiere status is preferred.
• Films have been completed after 2022.
• Preferably, the director or producer of the project will be in attendance at the screening and willing to take part in a Q&A if requested.

Fee waivers are available for First Nations filmmakers. Please email helen@wendyhousefilms.com.

We are committed to promoting filmmaker’s projects on the lead up to the festival. We consider each event an opportunity for networking with other artists and people from the industry.

All Official Selection films receive a complementary pass to attend their screening.

Had an awesome time at Nocturnal Film Fest! The films were seriously high quality and beautifully made. The vibe was super chill and a great sense of community throughout the night.

Big shoutout to Helen for organizing it all so smoothly, and for choosing such a unique venue - screenings in church with beers!

We were stoked to take home the Audience Choice Award! We’ll definitely be back next year.

This festival was super well-organized and the lineup was excellent! It was an honor that my animated short 'My Monthly Struggle' was selected for the Little Sketchy screening. It's got a tight-knit community and a great opportunity to meet other filmmakers and film lovers there. This is definitely worth submitting to!
