Regional film is at the heart of our festival.

Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein brings audiences and filmmakers together. Schleswig-Holstein is more than a stunning filming location – it is home to directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and film artists who shape the region's creative landscape.

We invite audiences to join film discussions and gain insight into the creative process. Our goal is to connect filmmakers, foster dialogue, and strengthen the film community in the north.

GESA RAUTENBERG AWARD
Best Feature or Medium-Length Film from Schleswig-Holstein (16 min. or longer). 1,500€ prize money + artist-designed trophy. Selected by professional jury. Sponsored by Filmkultur Schleswig-Holstein e.V.

KURT DENZER AWARD
Best Documentary Film from Schleswig-Holstein (15-60 min.). 1,000€ prize money + artist-designed trophy. Selected by professional jury. Sponsored by Kurt Denzer Film Foundation.

AUDIENCE AWARD
Best Short Film from Schleswig-Holstein (up to 15 min.). 1,000€ prize money + artist-designed trophy. Selected by festival audience. Sponsored by ComLine.

BLICKFANG AWARD
Best International Experimental Film (up to 15 min.). 1,000€ prize money + artist-designed trophy. Selected by professional jury. Sponsored by Filmkultur Schleswig-Holstein e.V. The only international competition at Filmfest SH.

Rules & Terms

These rules apply to all submissions regardless of section. Please read carefully before submitting.

1) COMPLETION DATE
Only films completed in 2025, or 2026 are eligible. Films submitted to previous editions of Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein will not be considered.

2) SUBTITLES
Films in languages other than German must have German subtitles embedded or as a separate subtitle file.

3) SCREENING FORMAT
Selected films must provide a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) for festival screenings. The DCP must be submitted via upload within two weeks of acceptance notification. Physical media (DVDs, Blu-rays, hard drives, USB sticks) are not accepted.

4) SUBMISSION FORM AFTER ACCEPTANCE
Selected filmmakers must complete a submission form providing all necessary materials for the festival catalog, website, and program. Materials must be submitted two weeks of acceptance notification. The festival is not liable for inaccuracies in submitted materials.

5) RIGHTS & USAGE
By submitting, you grant Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein the right to screen your work during the festival. This may include physical screenings at festival venues or online streaming/VOD for accredited audiences. The festival also reserves the right to use film excerpts and stills for marketing and promotional purposes.

6) LEGAL AUTHORIZATION
The submitter confirms they are legally authorized to submit the film and to grant the usage rights described above. The submitter agrees to indemnify Filmfest SH against any third-party claims arising from lack of legal authorization.

7) SCREENING FEES
No screening fees will be paid for submitted films.

8) WITHDRAWAL
Once a film's participation in the festival has been publicly announced, it cannot be withdrawn.

9) TRANSPORT COSTS
Unless otherwise agreed, participants are responsible for all costs related to transport, insurance, and customs clearance for film copies.

10) OTHER EVENTS
The festival organizers reserve the right to screen submitted films in other film series or events related to Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein.

11) CHANGES TO RULES
The festival management reserves the right to change these rules in special cases.

    Wir hatten eine großartige Zeit auf dem Festival – mit sehr freundlichen und professionellen Mitarbeiter:innen und einer tollen Atmosphäre. Leider gab es im Kino in der Pumpe technische Probleme, die den Start unseres Films um etwa 20 Minuten verzögert haben – dafür kann das Festival natürlich nichts. Umso mehr bedanken wir uns für die Geduld des Publikums und das Verständnis aller Beteiligten.

    Ich hatte das Glück, dass zwei meiner Kurzfilme, fürs diesjährige Programm außerhalb des Wettbewerbs ausgewählt wurden. Bei einem der beiden Screenings war ich vor Ort. Das hat mir sehr gefallen. Man merkt, dass alle Filme lieben und es mit Leidenschaft angehen, Filmemachern eine Bühne zu bieten.

    Das "Kurzfilm-Special" brauchte Kurzfilme unterschiedlichster Couleur zusammen, jedoch durchgehend ansprechend. Die Moderation des Abends war entspannt und unterhaltsam, die Filme wurden in zwei vollen Räumen parallel gezeigt – einer davon ein kleiner Kinosaal. Das anschließende Q&A empfand ich als eines der besten, das ich bisher mitgemacht habe. Die Fragen waren interessant, das Gespräch, das daraus resultierte, hab dem Publikum tatsächlich einen Einblick in den Entstehungsprozess. Das ist nicht immer so, kann ich aus Erfahrung sagen. Von daher: vielen lieben Dank an die Moderatoren und das Publikum.

    Das zweite Screening fand im Rahmen des Kinderprogramms statt. Und man berichtete mir, dass auch hier wieder sehr liebevoll durch die Veranstaltung geführt wurde und die Kinder aktiv mit eingebogen wurden.

    Ich würde jederzeit wieder einreichen und freue mich, vielleicht bald wieder beim Filmfest SH dabei sein zu dürfen.
