Winning entries are screened at international journalism festivals between April and October each year.

The best stories from this competition are then curated in a permanent collection at the Smart Film School.

ORGANIZERS
The Mobile Journalism Awards is an annual global competition run by the Visual Editors Non-Profit to advance, identify and celebrate the best mobile journalism film reporting each year.

NOTES
Ethical, original and honest storytelling is what judges like to see.

These awards make a real difference for mobile storytellers and the communities they serve.

Every finalist will be awarded a $500 gift certificate from the Smart Film School.

Category Winners will receive gear and software prizes from Blackmagic Design and IK Multimedia.

CHARITABLE DONATIONS
Proceeds from this event and prizes donated support Visual Editors, NFP - A public charity that provides visual journalism educational resources.

The public can also support this project by giving to the charity.

SCREENINGS
The #Best Documentary winner is screened at a special event at the NABshow in Las Vegas in April. (In partnership with the Broadcast Education Association).

Finalists films are also screened at international journalism events throughout the year.

Winning entries have been screened at the National Press Club (USA), the International Journalism Festival (ITALY), the Global Investigative Journalism Conference (Sweden) and at U.S. Speaker mobile journalism events in Singapore, Spain, Austria, and Jamaica.

Read the specific rules for each category as they tell you what formats are allowed.

ELIGIBILITY
Videos must have been posted within the last 14 months.
Final editing of your stories can be completed up to the deadline date.

- Entries may be recorded with any combination of smartphones, mobiles, drones, and pocket cameras.

- Do not enter films that were shot with full-frame sensor cameras. (Mirroless, DSLR, or cinema cams)

- Films do not need to be edited on mobile devices.

- Use of commercial, copyrighted music in a film will result in an immediate disqualification.

- News agency shots can be included, but cannot be the majority of the visual content. Contributed shots need to be properly credited as sources.

Ethical and transparent mobile journalism is what judges like to see.

- There are no deadline exceptions.

- All submissions must be original.

Consent
- Entrants consent to the use of their films or videos for live screenings that are part of this competition.

- Entrants further consent to allow entries to be curated and shared for educational purposes.

Verification
All entrants must attest that they are submitting work produced with mobile gear and apps. Judges can disqualify entries that cannot be verified.
