Dark Red Film Festival requires all film submissions to be produced and completed within three years of submission. Short films should be between 1 and 30 minutes in length, although longer films may be considered upon request. The festival emphasizes inclusivity, supporting minorities, women, and the queer community in film. Non-English films must include English subtitles, and screenplays must be in English. The festival does not offer fee waivers, and entry fees are non-refundable.

Submissions should include an entry fee paid by credit card or PayPal, and a private online screener link is preferred. The judging panel, comprised of industry professionals and community members, will make final decisions on official selections and awards. Filmmakers of selected films will be notified by email or phone.

For exhibition, the festival accepts HD digital files and DCPs. All materials must be received by the deadline provided to selected filmmakers, and shipping costs are the responsibility of the filmmaker. The festival reserves the right to disqualify any submission without refund.

Premiere status, while not required, is considered in programming decisions. Films produced or financed by major studios are not eligible for competitive awards, though they may be screened. The festival may use excerpts, images, and biographical information from submitted films for promotional purposes. Filmmakers are responsible for securing rights to any copyrighted material used in their films.

No screening fees are paid by Dark Red Film Festival. By submitting a film, filmmakers agree to these terms.

Massive thanks for this excellent festival - although only in its second year, this will surely go from strength to strength. Mason & Tabitha were incredibly welcoming, greeting everyone personally and taking the time to speak with them despite having so much to do. Well done team, great job all round!
