ARA KOREA FILM FESTIVAL (AKFF) is an international film festival dedicated to discovering and supporting filmmakers whose works explore contemporary culture, identity, and new forms of cinematic expression.

AKFF provides a platform where independent films, emerging voices, and experimental narratives can meet global audiences, industry professionals, and cultural institutions.

While engaging with new technologies and evolving media environments, the festival remains firmly grounded in cinema as an artistic and cultural practice. Our mission is to connect filmmakers with meaningful opportunities for visibility, dialogue, and long-term growth.

Awards & Prizes

The ARA KOREA FILM FESTIVAL (AKFF) presents a focused awards program that recognizes overall excellence across all genres and formats.

AKFF does not divide awards by genre or format.
Feature films, short films, documentaries, dance films, experimental works, and all other submissions are evaluated together.
Only four awards are presented in total.

Overall Excellence

Awarded to the film that demonstrates the highest level of overall artistic and cinematic achievement, including storytelling, direction, vision, and impact.

Artistic Vision & Craft

Awarded to a director whose work shows exceptional artistic vision, originality, and command of cinematic language, regardless of genre or format.

🏆 Best Performance

Acting Achievement

Awarded for an outstanding performance that conveys depth, authenticity, and emotional power.
This award may recognize an individual performer or a collective performance.

🏆 Jury Special Prize

Distinctive Work

Awarded to a film that demonstrates a unique voice, innovative approach, or distinctive perspective recognized by the jury.

Jury & Awarding Process

All awards are decided by a jury composed of active professional filmmakers, including directors, producers, and creators currently working in the film industry.

The jury evaluates all submissions based on artistic quality, originality, and cinematic execution, without regard to genre or format.
Jury decisions are final.

Awards are not separated into categories such as feature, short, documentary, dance, or experimental.

Rules & Terms (Final Review Version)

ARA KOREA FILM FESTIVAL (AKFF) is committed to providing a fair, transparent, and professional environment for filmmakers from around the world. By submitting a film to AKFF, applicants agree to the following rules and terms.

1. Eligibility

Submissions are open to filmmakers aged 10 years and above.

Films may be submitted by individuals, groups, organizations, institutions, clubs, or small businesses.

Submissions are accepted from all countries.

All genres and formats are eligible unless otherwise specified.

2. Language Requirements

Films in languages other than Korean must include Korean subtitles.

Subtitles must be clear, accurate, and properly synchronized.

Films submitted without Korean subtitles may be disqualified from consideration.

Subtitles must comply with FilmFreeway’s technical guidelines.

3. Submission Guidelines

All submissions must be made through FilmFreeway.

Each film must be submitted with accurate and complete information.

The submitting party confirms that they hold all necessary rights for exhibition, screening, and promotion of the submitted work.

AKFF is not responsible for any copyright infringement related to submitted materials.

4. Selection Process

Films are selected at the discretion of the AKFF programming committee.

Selection decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Selected filmmakers will be notified by email prior to public announcements.

5. Awards & Jury

Films selected for competition are evaluated by a jury appointed by AKFF.

The jury is composed of active professional filmmakers currently working in the film industry.

AKFF presents only four awards in total, across all genres and formats.

Awards are not divided by genre, format, or length.

If, in the judgment of the jury, no film meets the festival’s standards, an award may not be presented.

Jury decisions are final.

6. Screening & Promotion Rights

By submitting a film, the filmmaker grants AKFF the right to screen the film as part of the festival program.

AKFF may use excerpts, trailers, still images, and promotional materials for marketing, publicity, and archival purposes, with proper credit.

No full film will be used for promotional purposes without prior consent.

7. Fees & Refund Policy

Submission fees, if applicable, are non-refundable.

AKFF does not provide fee waivers unless explicitly stated.

8. General Terms

AKFF reserves the right to make changes to the festival program, schedule, and venues if necessary.

AKFF reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not comply with these rules.

By submitting, filmmakers acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to all rules and terms outlined above.

9. Governing Language

In the event of any dispute or discrepancy, the English version of these rules shall prevail.
