2020's November Festival Returns Online!

Be sure to read submission details on our website: www.womenofthelens.com

Women Of The Lens is a live Festival of Film, Broadcast and Digital programming. It was created to celebrate and highlight the achievements of black women in the UK creative industries.

This platform was created because the underrepresentation of black women in the creative industries remains stubbornly low. We want to reveal the complexity, diversity and multiplicities of these women, which is ordinarily overlooked in the conventional media-sphere. We arrive because their stories are our stories, human stories with varied narratives - and as such, wider audiences beyond those of colour can truly engage with complex tales, which move beyond the common tropes reserved for these women in typical media representations.

At Women Of The Lens, we want to create a space, which attracts industry professionals and those who have vested interests outside of the industry that build reciprocal relationships that nurture and builds careers. We want to share knowledge which signposts opportunities and develops ideas.

Whilst our stories are by, of and for black women, we sincerely welcome allied women - and men, who will support the ethos and spirit of Women Of The Lens through their own work.

We look forward to another event later in 2020 which will be held online in November. Stay close to social media for immediate updates. Facebook/Instagram/Twitter: @womenofthelens

    Response from festival:

It was a pleasure to screen No Shade film and to have you on the panel discussion, it was very informative. Looking forward to seeing your own development.

Yes indeed, growth and development is in the mix for the coming years. Hope you can be with the Festival as it does.

  • It was a pleasure to be a part of this event! And I was especially proud to have my experimental film Generation screen with the other films in my block; I appreciated how apropos the lineup was. As well, the organizers--Jennifer, who's a film professor, and Laurelle, a filmmaker--were hospitable and responsive, and I was complimented to get their verbal appreciation of my work. I also connected with at least one other filmmaker there. And to those who might be coming from abroad, like I did, the location is superb, just off Brick Lane in the heart of an arts district with a wealth of great food, sites, and shopping nearby.

Thank you for your input Pamela. Your film was a valuable entry to our 2018 programme. Look forward to your new ventures - which you must advise the Festival about when you can.

  • Women Of The Lens Festival is such a friendly festival. I loved watching the other films in the screening that my film was in. The quality was high, but also the films were fascinating to watch. The organisers are very passionate about their festival and very organised too. They were so friendly and warm. I highly recommend this festival.
