PLEASE NOTE: This year, a 30 second clip is only required for finalists. We will reach out after finalists have been announced.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
1. You must select each category you’d like to submit your production for through FilmFreeway. Charges are calculated per category.
2. All Class and Craft entries must qualify as Alberta Productions, Alberta Co-Productions, or International Co-Productions according to the Eligibility Criteria. In the event of a dispute, evidence of eligibility may be required. AMPIA’s Executive Committee shall arbitrate all disputes, and the Committee’s decision will be final.
3. Productions do not need to be entered in a Class category to qualify for the Craft categories. In addition, if a Producer has not submitted a particular Craft entry, individual Craftspeople may submit entries separately, provided the producer(s) approve the entry.
4. Each production may only be entered in ONE Class category - with one exception – all Class entries may also be entered in Best Production Reflecting Cultural Diversity (A15).
5. Entrants must indemnify AMPIA against all copyright infringement resulting from screening programs for adjudication purposes or recording.
6. Only one ROSIE AWARD will be awarded for each category; however, additional ROSIE AWARDS can be ordered from AMPIA at cost.
7. All reasonable care will be taken to protect submissions from loss or damage. AMPIA and its agents are not liable for any loss or damage incurred.
8. All submissions must be completed in full and submitted no later than May 22, 2026. Late entries will not be accepted and entry fees are non-refundable.
9. In the event there are less than 3 entries in any category, the producer(s) will be contacted and given the opportunity to enter the program in a different category if that category is deemed suitable.
10. Note: Finalists may be selected for a festival screening. You will be contacted separately with information concerning this.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 2026:
CLASS AWARD ENTRIES
1. All production(s) entered must have been completed between January 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026.
2. Productions must be produced or co-produced by an Alberta company, or sole proprietor. For the purpose of these Awards, an Alberta Company is defined as a company based in Alberta that is controlled by Alberta residents, with an office and staff that carry-on business in Alberta, incorporated in Alberta, and has as its principal business the production of film, television, and/or interactive media.
3. Alberta Productions or Co-Productions are eligible provided they meet the following criteria:
A. The Alberta Production Company must retain 51% ownership of the production after completion. The Producer may be requested to submit Proof of Ownership or Chain of Title.
B. The Alberta Producer must have an on-screen credit as Producer or Executive Producer.
C. Canadians and/or Albertans must be employed in a minimum of 6 of the following Key Creative Positions: 1. Producer; 2. Director; 3. Screenwriter; 4. Director of Photography/Cinematographer; 5. Production Designer/Art Director; 6. Editor; 7. Composer; 8. Lead Performer; 9. Make-up; 10. Costume Design.
In addition, one of either ‘Screenwriter’ or ‘Director’ must be Canadian.
4. Canadian Productions or Co-Productions are eligible provided they meet the following criteria (Category A4 & A5):
A. The Alberta Production Company must retain 51% ownership of the production after completion. Producer may be requested to submit Proof of Ownership or Chain of Title.
B. The Alberta Producer must have an on-screen credit as Producer or Executive Producer.
C. Canadians and/or Albertans must be employed in a minimum of 6 of Key Creative Positions listed in 3) C).
In addition, one of either ‘Screenwriter’ or ‘Director’ must be Canadian
CRAFT AWARD ENTRIES
1. To be eligible for a Craft Award, the nominee must have been a resident of Alberta on a continuous basis, for the past 12 months or 12 months during and prior to production and must have received an on-screen credit in the craft category in which they are entered. If no on-screen credit appears on the production, a list of credits signed by the executive producer and/or producer must be provided.
2. A resident Albertan craftsperson is eligible to enter a craft category for their work completed on a production produced outside of Alberta. By submitting your entry, you affirm that you possess the necessary authorization from the Producer of the Production.
JURIES AND JUDGING:
1. Judges are selected from across Canada (Albertans cannot be judges). Each individual judge will score each entry in 3 areas: Creativity, Craftsmanship and Overall Effectiveness. The scores from each judge are then tabulated to determine the top entries in each Class and each Craft category. The winners are then chosen for each category. Judges’ results are final.
2. Producers must select the Award category for each submission. However, if the Judges determine that an entry is not suitable for a certain category, the Producer will be contacted and given the option to move the entry to a category deemed more suitable.
CLASS AWARD CATEGORIES
A1. Best Unscripted SERIES
A documentary or reality series (half-hour or one-hour episodes) that explores a person, place, event, situation or issue. Only ONE episode needs to be submitted in the Class category; however, additional episodes may be submitted for Craft categories.
A2. Best Unscripted Production Under 30 Minutes
A stand-alone, documentary or reality production that explores a person, place, event, situation or issue. This category is not intended for weekly or episodic series. Production must be more than 10 minutes but less than 30 minutes.
A3. Best Unscripted Production Over 30 Minutes
A stand-alone documentary or reality production that explores a person. place, event, situation or issue. This category is not intended for weekly or episodic series.
A4. Best Scripted SERIES or Mini-Series
A scripted series (half-hour or one-hour episodes) featuring continuing principal characters and or the same title or topic. Only ONE episode needs to be submitted in the Class category; however, additional episodes may be submitted for all Craft categories. Must be produced by an Alberta-owned Production Company with minimum 51% ownership and 6 of the Key Creative Positions must be Canadian and/or Albertan.
A5. Best Scripted Feature, Made-For-TV Movie, or Made-for-OTT or Specialty Cable Networks
A stand-alone scripted feature film or Made-for-TV movie, (must have a running time of more than 60 minutes) made specifically for theatrical release or television broadcast as its first exposure, or as first exposure on the following platforms; Netflix, Crave, Showcase, or for OTT specialty cable networks. Must be produced by an Alberta-owned Production Company with minimum 51% ownership and 6 of the Key Creative Positions must be Canadian and/or Albertan.
A6. Best Children’s Program or Series
A stand-alone production or series intended for the entertainment or education of children aged twelve and under (includes animated programs). Note: for a Series, only ONE episode needs to be submitted in the Class category, however, additional episodes may be submitted for Craft categories.
A7. Best TV Commercial or Promotional Production Under $30K
A production, 10 minutes or less in length, broadcast on television and intended for advertising and marketing of specific products, events, services, or television programs with a budget under $30,000.
A8. Best TV Commercial or Promotional Production Over $30K
A production, 10 minutes or less in length, broadcast on television and intended for advertising and marketing of specific products, events, services, or television programs with a budget over $30,000.
A9. Best Public Service Announcement or Educational Production
A Public Service Announcement (PSA) is an awareness message on behalf of a Charitable, Government, or Not-For-Profit organization that informs and educates the Public about the purpose or mission of the organization or a Children’s program with the primary purpose of assisting the education process.
A10. Best Corporate Production Under $30K
A corporate production designed for internal, external or training use with a budget under $30,000.
A11. Best Corporate Production Over $30K
A corporate production designed for internal, external or training use with a budget over $30,000.
A12. Best Music Video
A stand-alone video production featuring the performance of a recording artist or artists.
A13. Best Podcast
A podcast series that captivates listeners through engaging storytelling, strong content, and high production quality. Whether narrative-driven, interview-based, or informational, entries should resonate with audiences and effectively use audio to inform or entertain.
A14. Best Scripted Production Under 30 Minutes
A single production over 3 minutes but less than 30 minutes in length, on any subject (NOT including animation).
A15. Best Production Reflecting Cultural Diversity
This category recognizes a production that celebrates Alberta’s rich cultural diversity. Productions (in this category only) may also be entered in another Class category.
A16. Fil Fraser Best Student Production
A program produced by students enrolled full-time in post-secondary institutions studying film/TV/digital production.

Stunt Performer must be an Alberta Resident and have performed on a stunt on a production shot in Alberta. The Stunt Performer category is comprised of a maximum of 3 individual entrants with on-screen credits. Series submissions are limited to stunts from a single episode. Please include a screen capture of the performer, character name and time codes.
