The film festival previously known as the "Star Ranch's Texas Area Nudist Film Festival is back for its fifth year!

Last year was our best attended year with a packed house for two nights of screening at Star Ranch (near Austin, Texas) and two screenings to a standing room only crowd on the "Big Nude Boat" (Somewhere in the Carrabin Sea)

We are continuing to work with Bare Necessities Cruses to have another screening at sea on a future cruse (for which all nudist films entered are considered) And we are back with a sixth season of screenings at our home, the Star Ranch Nudist Resort near Austin, Texas.

So what are we looking for? Your best films, of course. We want shorts, features, and even music videos. We accept films of almost all types and genres. You do not have to be naked to win...

Because we always get this question, we want to be abundantly clear about one thing. Your film does NOT have to be a 'nudist' film to be selected and screened at our fest. Each of our 'film types' (shorts, features, music videos), has a category for nudist films, and one for non-nudist films. We believe this pretty much gives everyone a spot to enter their films. We will show films of all lengths and genres but we are especially interested in films made by nudists and films about the nudist lifestyle.

So what is a nudist film? Nudist films deal with social and/or recreational nudism, (sometimes called 'naturism') and often they are personal tales of how someone first became involved in the nudist lifestyle. They can also deal with the ideas or issues facing the nudist community, or films dealing with body image issues, or positive expressions of nudity within society.

Nudist films are NOT "porn films". We have no category for those. There are other festivals for that genre.

Generally speaking, nudist films do NOT tie nudity to any form of sexual expression, though there is certainly room in the non nudist categories for thoughtful films dealing with gender issues, sexual identity, and other similar themes.

The other important thing to understand is that your audience will be nudists. And as such, they will likely be nude when they are watching your films. All our venues are "clothing optional" and that means exactly what it says. If you choose to come to a screening of your film, you will be welcome to wear whatever you chose, including nothing at all if you feel so inclined. No mater what your choice you will be welcomed by our audience. They don't get to meet a lot of film makers.

So why do we do a nudist film festival? Two reasons:

1. To provide the opportunity for our members to enjoy a wide range of independent films they otherwise would not have an opportunity to see.

2. To encourage the production and distribution of films dealing with the nudist and/or naturist lifestyles and the history, issues, and ideas of interest to our community.

The festival will accept entries through the end of summer 2024 and screen at Star Ranch during the fall. We are continuing to work toward another screening at sea and that will be announced once arrangements are made.

We have both audience favorite and Jury awards.

All winning films will receive a digital certificate and appropriate laurels.

Entries must be made exclusively through the "FilmFreeway" online festival entry platform . Entries may NOT be submitted directly to the festival.

If your film is selected you MUST upload to the festival a digital file for screening or make it available through FilmFreeway or Vimeo for download. The file must be 1920x1080 or higher resolution and must not be an "UpRes" of a lower quality copy. We prefer DNxHD or ProRes .mov files. If those are not available, H.264 compression is okay as long as it is at a HIGH DATA RATE.

Anyone wishing to attend the festival must make arrangements with the venue for admission to the property (or passage on the cruise).

Star Ranch has limited, affordable accommodations for rent. Star Ranch also has a specific identification and background check procedure for anyone wishing to visit. Please see their web site for details. (there are links on our web site) It's a little bit more complicated then just buying an all fest pass and showing up at a theatre.

By entering, you give SSNFF permission to show your film at the festival in any of our multiple venues.

Entrants agree that if their film is selected for screening at SSNFF, promotional clips from their film and all other material related to their project may be used and/or published in the event program, through local/regional/or national media outlets, and/or the SSNFF web site for any promotional purposes which SSNFF deems appropriate.

No materials submitted to the festival will be returned to the filmmaker.

If selected, all commercial/private property including ALL trademark copy-righted materials shown or recorded on the project is the responsibility of the filmmaker. SSNFF will NOT take responsibility for any infringement of copy-written materials. The film maker will indemnify SSNFF against any complaint for your film breaching anyone else's copyright.

A feature film is any film of 40 minutes or longer. A short film is any film shorter than 40 minutes.

For purposes of this contest a 'nudist/naturist' film is one that addresses issues directly pertaining to the nudist/naturist community that arise out of the specific clothing optional environment and/or films that are primarily set in a nudist/naturist environment. For example, a documentary about the evils of strip mining is NOT a nudist/naturist film because the issue does not arise from the nudist environment. But a documentary about the current debate over accepting 'lifestyle' clubs into the family of nudist resorts would be a nudist/naturist film. If you have questions, please email us before entering. Due to the reduced entry fee for nudist/naturist films, films incorrectly entered in this category will NOT be automatically reclassified.

The cost of delivery and pick-up of all materials is the responsibility of the filmmaker.

SSNFF is not responsible for lost or damaged submissions.

BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY TO THE SOUTHERN SUN NUDIST FILM FESTIVAL, YOU ATTEST THAT ALL INFORMATION IS ACCURATE AND COMPLETE AND THAT YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO SUBMIT SAID ENTRY FOR CONSIDERATION AND THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO ALL TERMS OF ENTRY.

While I haven't had the chance to visit this festival, they are one of the friendliest. Communication is great and welcoming. This was our second year to be a part of the event, and we had planned on attending, but the Covid-19 pandemic kept us from making the trip. Here's hoping for a 3rd invite next time!
