SWAN Film Festival is a short film festival for students.
Our festival is dedicated to inspiring students and connecting audiences through short films that champion the Student With A Narrative as a filmmaker and storyteller.

2021 commenced as a year of continued uncertainty but the year revealed a raft of challenges across Australia with each of us witnessing lockdown after lockdown. But we managed to WFH work from home and SFM school from home. Australians, with their spirit and optimism, are witnessing an acceptance of these uncertain times knowing that better times are ahead.

Festival Information

This year our festival celebrates the theme of β€˜Acceptance’.

Students are encouraged to explore and celebrate the topic β€˜Acceptance’ in the genre and style that supports their narrative. We accept short or animated films in the form of fiction and non-fiction, and across the spectrum.

Amidst all that is going on in our world today, there is one common element: acceptance. We find this to be the perfect time to have important conversations on accepting, emerging, progressing, growing, and developing. Sometimes it is also about taking a step back or distancing, so that we could then move on and truly understand how to move forward.

We encourage students to think outside the box as the theme is entirely open to interpretation. There is no limit or suggestion on how the theme becomes incorporated.

Thank you Kyo Roku. As a new independent film festival we are really very pleased that you enjoyed the SWAN Film Festival. We look forward to seeing a submission from you again this year and wish you every success in your film career.

  • I absolutely DO NOT recommend the SWAN Festival. I didn't get paid for the Viewer's choice Award, which I won. There is lack of contact with the festival. They had numerous errors and delays during the event. A very bad experience.
