Johnson C. Smith University presents: The Reel Culture Film Showcase. It is a vision of black excellence illustrated through cinema. The purpose is to create, explore, and challenge conventional thinking.

The topic for this year's festival is "Promoting Authenticity: Challenging our Perceptions." This Festival aims to challenge and dismantle the pervasive inaccurate notions of blackness by reshaping the way characters and stories are portrayed on screen.

Awards & Prizes

This inaugural event will be a showcase of local artists within the African Diaspora. All participants will receive gift bags with branded swag and items from our sponsors.

Rules & Terms

*By submitting your film to our festival, you automatically declare that you own all the rights to the film (images, sound, music and poster).

*Submission must be a minimum of 1920x1080 / 24 - 30 fps. Below resolution, poor audio quality, etc. will not be considered.

*Cast must be primarily (80%) of the African diaspora (African, Black American, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx)

*Writer and/or Director must be of the African diaspora (African, Black American, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx)

*No longer than 15 minutes

*By submitting your film, you are giving our team permission to use any promotional materials (poster, press release, trailer, etc...) for our marketing needs.

*All accepted and non-accepted submissions will be notified to submitters via email.

*Those selected MUST be physically present at the Festival

*If selected, at least one member of production team will consent to a short Q and A section.

*Your film file must be downloadable; we do not stream from Platforms during a Festival.
