Patagonia Film Festival has returned to the Santa Monica store after a hiatus since 2019! Theme: Water Action and Activism.
We will show 60 minutes worth of films at the festival, and the audience will vote for Best Overall, Best Environmental Story, and Best Cinematography. Winners will be awarded a $1,500 shopping spree at Patagonia Santa Monica.

Contest Description: THE PATAGONIA FILM FESTIVAL (the “Contest”) is sponsored by Patagonia, Inc., 259 W. Santa Clara St, Ventura, CA 93001, (“Sponsor”). The Contest begins on May 12, 2025 and ends on August 14, 2025. All film submissions (“Film Entries”) must be received by June 30, 2025. Contest is void where prohibited. By entering, each entrant accepts and agrees to be bound by these official Contest rules (the “Official Rules”).
Eligibility: No purchase necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not increase your odds of winning. This Contest is open to legal residents of all fifty (50) United States including the District of Columbia, who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees and immediate family members of employees of Sponsor and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, and their advertising and production agencies are not eligible to participate in this Contest. Only one Film Entry per individual and/or per household will be accepted. Multiple entries will be disqualified.
How to Enter: To enter the Contest, submit an original film that is five (5) minutes in length or less. The subject matter of the film must pertain to water action or activism. Film Entries that do not contain material pertaining to one of the aforementioned subject matters, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, will be disqualified. All content must be suitable for all ages. The Film Entry should be loaded onto a flash drive, or through a high quality downloadable link. The Film Entry must be in the English language or contain subtitled in English. You must legibly print your name, phone number, address, and email address on the back of your Film Entry. Each Film Entry must also be accompanied by a signed Film Submission Agreement. You may submit your film entry by either hand delivering or shipping it to the Patagonia Santa Monica retail store whose address is 1345 3rd St., Santa Monica, CA 90401. If mailed, the package should be marked “Attention: Film Festival Submission”. Entries must be received by June 30, 2025 in order to qualify.
Film Entries must be complete and legible in order to qualify, and will be void if they are, in whole or in part, incomplete, illegible, damaged, irregular, counterfeit, altered, or obtained through theft or fraud. Sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, illegible, misdirected or mutilated Film Entries, including due to transmission and/or submission failures of any kind, including, without limitation, human error or any other error or malfunction. Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. Any questions regarding the number of Film Entries submitted by an individual and/or household shall be determined by Sponsors, in their sole discretion, and Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any Film Entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest.
Film Entries that contain inappropriate content, as determined by Sponsors, in their sole discretion, will be disqualified, including, without limitation, entries that: contain vulgar, obscene, lewd, pornographic or violent material; depict unlawful activities or conduct; disparage Sponsors or any other person or entity; and/or that contain trademarked or copyrighted material of a third party.
By entering and participating in the Contest, you warrant that your Film Entry: is your sole, original work; that it was created for the Contest; that the depiction contained therein is authentic and that you have not altered or manipulated the photograph; that it is not in the public domain; and that it does not infringe upon or violate the rights of any other party (including, but not limited to, any common law or statutory copyright, proprietary right, publicity right, civil right, or other right).
No film submitted to the Contest may contain imagery generated by artificial intelligence, or AI (including, but not limited to, AI-generated characters, backgrounds, special effects, and any other visual elements created using AI technologies). All visual content must be the result of human creativity and effort. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification from the Contest.
No acknowledgment of receipt of entries will be provided. Entries will not be returned; all entries become the property of Sponsors and Sponsors reserve the right to use entries and information submitted by entrants. Entrants acknowledge and agree that entries become the exclusive property of Sponsors and will not be returned. Sponsors have the sole, exclusive, and unconditional right to edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, publish, promote, and otherwise use entries in any manner, without compensation to any entrant. By submitting an entry, each entrant represents and warrants that he or she has the necessary legal rights in the entry submitted to convey these rights to Sponsors. Each entrant acknowledges, understands, and agrees that Sponsors may disclose any information contained within or derived from his or her entry to third persons connected with the Contest, and to compile information from third parties in connection with such entries and the Contest process.
How Prizes Will Be Awarded:
Patagonia Santa Monica staff members will make selection from all eligible entries to be shown at the Patagonia Film Festival. This initial selection will be based upon quality, storytelling and adherence to the theme/rules of the event. The selected Film Entries will be shown at the Patagonia Film Festival on August 14, 2025 at Patagonia Santa Monica whose address is 1345 3rd St., Santa Monica, CA 90401. (“Festival”). Additional days may be added depending upon the number of entries received. The public (“Attendee(s)”) is invited to attend the Festival. Admission to the Festival will ticketed. Each Attendee at the Festival will receive a ballot with the name and description of each Film Entry. Each Attendee may cast one vote in each of the three prize categories listed below. Limit one ballot per Attendee. If Sponsors determine, in their sole discretion, that any Attendee has submitted more than one ballot, all of that individual’s votes will be disqualified. Individuals submitting Film Entries are eligible to cast a ballot and vote. All votes must be submitted within thirty minutes of the last Film Entry screening. After voting has closed, Sponsors will count the votes.
There are three (3) categories of prizes: 1) Best Overall; 2) Best Environmental Story; and 3) Best Cinematography. The Film Entry that receives the most votes in each category will be awarded a prize as described in section 5. In the event of a tie, the entries that receive the same number of votes will be awarded the same prize. For example, if two entries tie for the most number of votes in the Best Action category, both will win the prize described in section 5.
Winners of each prize category will be announced at the Festival by the Patagonia Santa Monica Store Manager or other designated employee. Winners need not be present to win and shall be notified by phone or email. In the event that a winning entrant fails to respond to Sponsors’ notification within seven (7) days, his or her prize will be forfeited, and Sponsors reserve the right to award the prize to the entry that received the next most votes.
Prizes.
a. Best Overall: The winning entrant will receive a $1,500.00 shopping spree at the Patagonia Santa Monica Store. The prize must be redeemed by December 31, 2025.
b. Best Environmental Story: The winning entrant will receive a $1,500.00 shopping spree at the Patagonia Santa Monica Store. The prize must be redeemed by December 31, 2025.
c. Best Cinematography: The winning entrant will receive a $1,500.00 shopping spree at the Patagonia Santa Monica Store. The prize must be redeemed by December 31, 2025.
Approximate retail value of all prizes is U.S. $4,500.00. The shopping spree prize funds must only be spent at the Patagonia Santa Monica retail store. The prize winners must call the Patagonia Santa Monica store to arrange a mutually convenient date and time for the shopping spree to occur. Spree funds must be spent on only Patagonia branded products and is limited to stock on hand for in store purchases only: no phone orders, no chases, no transfers. Shopping spree funds may not be used to purchase gift cards or surfboards. No prize or prize components may be exchanged for cash or any other consideration. No winner may transfer, assign, or substitute a prize. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a prize, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. No prize may be combined with any other offer. Sponsors will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen prizes, including, but not limited to, giftcards.
Odds of Winning: The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
Conditions of Acceptance of Prize: Winner must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules, and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. A driver’s license or other appropriate picture identification is required to claim a prize. Winners are subject to verification by Sponsors, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. An entrant is not a winner of any prize unless and until entrant’s eligibility has been verified and entrant has been notified that verification is complete. In the event that a winner is determined to be ineligible, his or her prize will be forfeited.
Winners will be solely responsible for any and all local, state, and federal taxes, as well as license and registration fees incurred by participating in the Contest. Sponsors will report any individual winnings over $600 (in cash or fair market value of goods or services) in a one (1) year period to the Internal Revenue Service. Winners will receive a Form 1099 from Sponsors if Sponsors report any winnings to the Internal Revenue Service.
Each prize winner agrees to the use of his or her name and likeness in publicity without any additional compensation (except where prohibited). By entering this Contest, each prize winner acknowledges that Sponsors have the right to publicize, by any medium, each winner’s name, voice, likeness, and entry, the fact that they won, and all matters incidental thereto.
Limitation on Liability: By entering this Contest, each entrant forever discharges and releases Sponsors, their parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability, claims, causes of action, suits, and demands of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, responsibility for property damage, loss of life, or personal injury resulting from or in connection with participating in the Contest or from or in connection with use or receipt of any prize, however caused.
Sponsors’ Reservation of Rights: These Official Rules are subject to modification by Sponsors. In the event of a dispute, all decisions made by Sponsors are final and binding. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify any person who tampers with the entry process or who otherwise acts in violation of these Official Rules. Sponsors further reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, or modify this Contest if, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of completion as planned (including, but not limited to, for the following reasons: force majeure or non-authorized human intervention that compromises or affects the administration, fairness, integrity, security, or proper conduct of the Contest).
