Call for submissions
We live in turbulent times. Beyond the unease fueled by the news and social media, there is also the discomfort of not knowing how to name the impasse we find ourselves in. Rising to this moment, Suely Rolnik argues, requires articulating with precision what suffocates us and leaves a lump in our throats. For us, thinking and sensing the world are inseparable from the image. That is why, in this tenth edition, we invite students and amateur artists to submit audiovisual works that challenge the conventions of hegemonic, commercial, and narrative cinema—works that open pathways for inhabiting the crisis together and imagining a poetics that speaks of a future beyond mere unease.
We are also looking for experimental films and video manifestations that prioritize processes over results. Works created in any format are welcome; however, the final collection of selected works will be in digital video with a quality of 720 a. 1080p and in .mp4 format. If you're interested, please consider submitting your work for consideration.
Experimental animation
Animations that explore new formal, technical, expressive, communicative, or metaphorical possibilities will be received. That is, in contrast to the more traditional narratives, we are looking for works that dispense with linear narrative structures in the construction of the animation piece.
Experimental documentary
Audiovisual research works that address specific social, cultural, or environmental problems will be received, from a situated position and from an aesthetic that challenges the conventions of the hegemonic documentary.
Video essay
The video essay expresses a personal opinion regarding a topic using as its main resource images from the media, sequences created by the author, and/or the conceptual relationships that arise from the superimposition of these materials.
Guidelines
1. Students from any higher-level institution currently enrolled in an educational programs or who have less than 3 years of graduation may participate, regardless of their academic specialty, level and/or nationality .
2. The call is open to works carried out between January 2023 and the closing of this call. Projects registered in previous editions of NEOSFEST will not be able to participate.
3. Participants may register as many works as they wish, as long as they meet all the requirements.
4. The directors and producers of the participating films must verify their student status -or graduate under 3 years- by uploading their student ID or any other official document on the www.filmfreeway.com platform.
5. Registered videos must be original work, and/or have the corresponding copyright if necessary. NEOSFEST reserves the right to withdraw works that it considers does not meet the requested requirements.
6. If the language of a video is not Spanish, subtitles in Spanish must be provided.
7. Any matter not stipulated in this call will be reviewed by the Festival Organizing Committee.
8. The reception period will be from March 25 to July 28, 2025.
9. Those interested must register their work through the platform: https://filmfreeway.com/NEOSFEST (The profile must have the full name of the director and/or producer).
10. The NEOSFEST 2025 Official Selection will be announced around the third week of August on Filmfreeway, Facebook @neofes and Instagram: @neosfest
11. The Official Selection will be unappealable.
12. After accepting the invitation to one of the competitive sections, the video cannot be withdrawn from the festival's programming or FilmFreeway before its official presentation.
13. In case of selection, the required materials are:
a) Send the work in a digital file with quality for projection (SD360p to HD1080p maximum 10Gb)
b) Poster in pdf or jpg (300 dpi) and/or 3 stills for promotional use.
c) Fill out a release document for the live screening
Convocatoria
Vivimos un tiempo convulso. A la sensación de desasosiego que nos dejan las noticias y las redes sociales se suma el malestar de no saber nombrar el impasse en el que nos encontramos. Estar a la altura de este tiempo, dice Suely Rolnik, implica poder decir de la manera más precisa posible aquello que nos sofoca y nos produce un nudo en la garganta. Para nosotrxs, pensar y sentir el mundo son operaciones inseparables de la imagen, por lo que en esta, nuestra décima edición, convocamos a estudiantes y artistas amateur a inscribir obras audiovisuales que desafíen las convenciones del cine hegemónico, comercial y narrativo, y que abran caminos para la habitar juntos la crisis y la posibilidad de una poética que nos hable del futuro más allá del desasosiego.
Son bienvenidos trabajos realizados en cualquier formato aunque la recolección final de los seleccionados será en video digital con calidad de 720 a 1080p y en .mp4.
Animación experimental. Se recibirán animaciones análogas, digitales o mixtas que exploren nuevas posibilidades formales y discursivas, es decir que prescindan de estructuras narrativas lineales en la construcción de la pieza de animación.
Documental experimental. Se recibirán trabajos audiovisuales de investigación que aborden problemas sociales, culturales o ambientales específicos, es decir, desde una postura situada y autorreflexiva; y con una estética que desafíe las convenciones del documental hegemónico.
Video ensayo. El video ensayo expresa una opinión personal respecto a algún tema utilizando como principal recurso imágenes provenientes de los medios, secuencias creadas por el autor y/o las relaciones conceptuales que surjan de la superposición de estos materiales.
Lineamientos
a) Podrán participar los alumnos de todas las instituciones de nivel superior actualmente inscritos a programas educativos de realización audiovisual, sin importar su especialidad académica y/o nacionalidad que tengan menos de 3 años de haber egresado.
b) La convocatoria está abierta a trabajos realizados entre enero de 2023 y el cierre de la presente convocatoria. No podrán participar proyectos inscritos en ediciones anteriores de NEOSFEST.
c) No hay límite de envíos. Los participantes podrán registrar cuantos trabajos deseen, siempre y cuando, cumplan todos los requisitos.
d) Los creadores de las películas concursantes, deberán comprobar su estatus de estudiante -o con menos de 3 años de haber egresado- cargando su credencial de estudiante o cualquier otro documento oficial probatorio en la plataforma www.filmfreeway.com/neosfest.
e) Los videos registrados deberán ser obra original, y/o contar con los derechos de autor correspondientes en caso de ser necesario. NEOSFEST se reserva el derecho de retirar de la muestra trabajos que considere no cumple con los requisitos solicitados.
f) En caso de que el idioma del documental no sea el español, éste deberá de contar con subtítulos en español o en inglés.
g) Cualquier asunto no estipulado en la presente convocatoria será revisado por el Comité Organizador del Festival.
Inscripción
- El plazo de recepción estará abierto del 25 de marzo al 28 de julio de 2025.
-Los interesados deberán inscribir su trabajo a través de la plataforma: https://filmfreeway.com/NEOSFest (El perfil deberá tener el nombre completo de del director y/o productor).
- La selección oficial NEOSFEST 2025 se dará a conocer la ultima quincena de agosto en Filmfreeway/NEOSFEST, Facebook: @neofes y en Instagram: @neosfest
- La selección que realice el curador/a será inapelable.
- Después de aceptar la invitación a una de la secciones competitivas, el video no podrá ser retirada de la programación del festival ni de FilmFreeway antes de su presentación oficial.
En caso de selección los materiales requeridos son:
a) Tener disponible la descarga del video en archivo digital con calidad para proyección (SD720p a HD1080p máximo 4 GB, formato .mp4).
b) Cartel en pdf o jpg (300 dpi) y/o 3 stills para uso promocional.
d) Llenar el formato de autorización para la proyección del trabajo.
