Maria Maya has a bachelor's degree in performing arts from the federal university of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio ) in Brazil. And recently had complete filmmaker program at the New York Film Academy in New York.
Maria began her artistic career as an actress in theater, television and cinema. With relevant characters she participated in over 10 soap operas on channel Globo. As a director, she began her career in theater, being responsible for staging international productions such as “Nicky Silver's beautiful Child”, “talk radio and “Through the Iris”, scenic documentary about the life of Iris Apfel. Her last play was the broadway musical “ Bring it on “.
In the industry, Maria was assistant director of several advertising films. In 2021 she made her first national short film called “ The Party” and then directed “Everyone Deserves Heaven”, the first web series sponsored by Instagram in Brazil . She directed the video clip “duelle”, a Brazil-Colombia musical project available on all digital platforms. In 2024 Maria directed her first Us short film called “Routine” which is currently selected at the Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood - LA.
