Maria Maya has a bachelor's degree in performing arts from the university of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and as filmmaker at the New York Film Academy in NY. Maria began her directing career in theater, staging international productions such as “Nicky Silver's beautiful Child”, “talk radio" and “ Bring it on “ the broadway musical
In the industry, Maria was assistant director of several advertising films. In 2021 she made her first national short film called “ The Party” and then directed “Everyone Deserves Heaven”, the first web series sponsored by Instagram in Brazil . She directed the video clip “duelle”, Brazil-Colombia musical project available on all digital platforms. In 2024 Maria directed her first Us short film called “Routine” which is currently selected to many relevant film festivals as the Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood, - LA., Infinittto Brazilian Film festival. Maria was award as first time director at New York Movie Awards, Santa Barbara International Movie Awards and San Jose Independent Film Festival. Routine got nominee as best drama shorts at New York Independent Cinema Awards, Berlin Women Cinema Festival, New York Arthouse Film Fest, LA Independent Film Channel Festival and Hollywood Discovery Awards.
