THE PARTY

Adapted from the theatrical play "A festa" by Italian playwright Spiro Scimone, the short film portrays the misconnections and unsatisfied affections of an ordinary, less affluent family consisting of a father, a mother, and a son, isolated within a kitchen. The dramatic situation revolves around the preparations for the parents' wedding anniversary. In an atmosphere that blends comedy, melancholy, suggestive silences, and mundane phrases filled with double meanings, they react in various ways to the celebration of the marriage.

Director Biography - Maria Maya

Maria Maya has a bachelor's degree in performing arts from the federal university of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio) in Brazil , graduated in television Directing at Globo Channel TV. And as a filmmaker from the New York Film Academy in New York - US.
Maria began her artistic career as an actress in theater, television and cinema. With relevant characters she participated in over eleven soap operas on Globo Television. As a director, she began her career in theater, being responsible for staging international productions such as “Nicky Silver's beautiful Child”, “talk radio and “Through the Iris”, scenic documentary about the life of American fashionist Iris Apfel and she also direct the broadway musical “ Fame" and Bring it on “.
In the audiovisual field, in addition to having participated as assistant director and director of several advertising films, in 2021 he made his first national short movie called “ The Party” and then directed “Everyone Deserves Heaven”, the first web series sponsored by Instagram in Brazil . She directed the video clip “duelle”, a Brazil-Colombia musical project available on all digital platforms. In 2024 Maria directed her first Us short film called “Routine” which is currently selected and nominated at many relevant internacional film festivals as the Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood - LA, and Manhattan Film Festival - NYC
