The Living Skies Student Film Festival is an international short film festival based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, showcasing student work from across the globe. The three-day event, now in its 37th edition, will take place in March 2026 and is an opportunity to experience the emerging talent of local filmmakers, as well as to celebrate the work being done by film students across the country and globe.

Every year, our event features programmed screenings, workshops, and special guest presentations by leading artists and industry professionals. It is a 3-day cultural event, artistic showcase, and learning opportunity that culminates with our awards celebration and gala, held at the University of Regina campus, where the best films from Saskatchewan and around the globe have the chance to be awarded.

The Living Skies Student Film Festival is entirely student-run and is committed to providing the opportunity for other student filmmakers to submit their work for free (with proof of student enrolment; see Rules & Terms below).

Rules & Terms

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

- Submissions will be open from October 20th to October 27th, 2025.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES | RULES AND ELIGIBILITY:

- Films must have been completed after September 1st, 2024.

- Films must have been completed while the filmmaker was enrolled in a post-secondary institution (undergraduate or graduate: master's or doctoral).

- Only one film is allowed per submitter and must be submitted by the writer and/or director (NO DISTRIBUTORS).

- Films must have a run time between a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.

- Films must be submitted under ONLY ONE of the following categories: Documentary, Fiction, Experimental, or Animation. Films that are submitted under more than one category will be disqualified.

- Films that are NOT in English must have English subtitles.

- Generative AI is not permitted for submissions

** By submitting your film, you consent to it being screened at in-person festival screenings in March 2025 and online for a three-day period following the festival if selected.

By submitting your film to the 2026 Living Skies Student Film Festival, you confirm that your work is cleared for screening and that you take full responsibility for its content and ownership. You and your team agree to protect and release the Living Skies Student Film Festival, the University of Regina, and their partners from any claims, costs, or issues that may arise related to copyright, trademarks, credits, publicity, exhibition, or damage/loss of submitted materials.

- IMPORTANT: Your university/post-secondary institution name MUST be listed in the credits of your short film to be considered. Additionally, proof of student enrollment-- such as a university/institution e-mail address or student ID number-- will be required at submission. Failure to meet both of these requirements may result in the disqualification of your submission.

    Living Skies is a phenomenal festival showcasing quality local and international films and people. The festival is run by kindhearted, generous people who really think through how to make the best experience possible and it shows they have a passion for the craft.
    I felt so warmly welcomed as a filmmaker and everyone had a great time at the Gala event. Highly recommended!
