I had the privilege of attending the Karama Human Rights Film Festival, a deeply meaningful platform in the MENA region. The festival is driven by a team that genuinely believes in the power of cinema and human rights, and that sincerity is felt throughout.

The programming was strong, with film selections clearly based on quality and supported by an independent jury process. The hospitality from Sawsan Darwaza, Ehab Al Khatib, and the entire team was warm and thoughtful. The daily interactions with fellow filmmakers, shared meals, and conversations made the experience both memorable and enriching.

While we’re grateful for the recognition our film received, what stayed with me most were the films and the people. Karama is a rare and honest festival, and I hope to return again.

    Response from festival:

It was a pleasure having you in Karama this edition. Your film received the karama feather Award for short fiction, and it was well deserved. 🎉
See you soon and good luck our dear friend of Karama.

  • Karama has an extraordinary mission and curates an incredibly compelling lineup of films that genuinely matters. We felt truly honored and privileged to be selected, and being part of such a purposeful gathering of filmmakers committed to human rights storytelling is an invaluable experience.
However, we observed that communication throughout the process could be significantly improved. Better clarity on timelines, more transparent updates, and clearer coordination between different parts of the festival organization would greatly enhance the filmmaker experience.
