John Wayne S. III began his career in the entertainment industry almost three decades ago in Chicago. With a clear path and projection to becoming a doctor with a focus on geriatrics. Somehow the universe had different plans for him. Through a series of usual events, John Wayne had an opportunity to work on an independent film as a production assistant. The film was Director / Producer George Tillman's first film "Scenes for the Soul". George is most noted for his work on Soul Food, Barber Shop & Men of Honor. After the production wrapped, he continued to work with George and his partner Robert Teitel on music videos and other projects. Shortly after that, Wayne partnered with a local director to produce music videos. They started out shooting low-budget music videos for small labels. This venture proved quite successful, they moved from producing music videos in 35mm film for $5,000 to budgets quickly escalating.
Around this time, he went to work as a publicist for Grammy-nominated music producer Steve "Silk" Hurley. During his 3-year stint, he eventually became the Director of International A&R. In this capacity, John Wayne set up and oversaw offices/agents in the United Kingdom and Japan. Facilitating distribution, production, publishing, artist, and recording deals around the world. This experience working with Silk gave him the courage to venture on his own. John Wayne started, JWS Productions, to produce music videos and TV commercials. That venture allowed him to produce/directed over 200 music videos and 70 television commercials.
After some time away from the music industry, John Wayne was asked to join DL Records as President & General Manager. He was responsible for the label's overall direction, distribution, and operations. His tenure at the label was instrumental in propelling the career of Bodaiga and his international single "We Don't Play Dat" produced by Lil Jon, featuring Bun B.
After leaving DL Records, John Wayne revamped his production company with a focus on feature films, documentaries, and television programming. He re-branded it as Londyn Town Pictures and made his film directorial debut with Red All Over. The film stars Slim Thug, Donna Biscoe, Charmin Lee, and Victor Love, and explores the issues of gun violence, mental health, and bullying. At the same time, he was named president of Off The Bloc Music and propelled the career of Houston hip hop phenom OTB Fastlane.
John Wayne is passionate about assisting young filmmakers and giving them opportunities to advance in their careers. When he was approached by Maverick Entertainment, to produce/write a film that would feature strong black women. A new age “Foxxy Brown”. He looked for fresh young eyes to direct. Jamezz Hampton made his directorial debut with the film Ebony Hustle. It tells the story of an ex-stripper that turns private investigator. Since its release in December 2021, the indie film has streamed over 1 Million times.
The follow-up to the film, Ebony Hustle: Ballistic Protection, produced/directed/written by John Wayne, arrives in theaters in 2023. His films Plugged and My Fathers Keeper also make their way on the screen in 2023.
John Wayne S. III remains dedicated to the craft because he sees it as his medium to live forever. Through his films, documentaries, and produced media, he hopes to leave a legacy, have his voice heard, and cement his words for eternity. Ever staying focused and determined.
